#2 Duke vs. #12
Georgetown
These two teams aren’t exactly the legendary college teams of old
without future hall of fame players like they have had in the past
with basketball greats like the Hoyas Allen Iverson and Patrick
Ewing or the Blue Devils Grant Hill and Elton Brand, but somehow,
someway the Georgetown Hoyas and Duke Blue Devils are always near
the top of the Top 25 college basketball teams in the country every
year.
This season is no exception for Coach K has his Blue Devil boys
playing at a high level once again, not quite #1 in the country just
yet, but not far off sitting comfortably at #2 just behind #1
Pittsburgh.
As for the Hoyas, John Thompson Jr. and company have already dropped
three games this season, but that hasn’t been easy schedule or
conference for Georgetown as the Big East is arguably the best
conference in college basketball right now with teams like
Pittsburgh (#1), UConn (#4), Syracuse (#8) and Notre Dame (#13) all
in the top 15 teams in the country.
Although Georgetown has lost three games this season, two of which
to Pitt and Notre Dame, they are coming off a big 14 point victory
over #8 Syracuse which will give them some much needed momentum
going into this game against Duke.
As for Duke, they are on a roll with a 7 game winning streak. Even
though many people will predict Duke taking down Georgetown, if any
team in Duke’s relatively weak schedule can beat the Blue Devils it
is the Hoyas.

The Hoyas have been tested all season long playing against some of
the best teams in the country night in and night out. With that
being said they will be more than ready for Duke and have a great
chance of pulling off the upset in Coach K’s house.
After the huge win over Syracuse the Hoyas are poised to make a jump
into the top ten, maybe top five, if they can beat Duke come
Saturday. If the Blue Devils want to hold off the Hoyas from gaining
ground in the Top 25 they are going to have to rebound from ugly
shooting performance against Georgia Tech. Even though the Duke will
be favored in this match up, the final score will look more like a
#1 and #2 going head to head. All college basketball fans will be in
for a treat when these two teams face off on Saturday.
I would take Georgetown in this match up as the Blue Devils are due
for a reality check and the Hoyas are ready to make the jump to the
country’s elite in the college basketball ranks.
This is written before the lines are posted, however Duke should
be roughly a 7-9 point favorite, in which case we'll glady take the
points here in a game Georgetown can win outright.
