UConn vs. Louisville

The #2 UConn Huskies vs. #7 Louisville Cardinals, a Big East battle of the ages which has the making of an instant classic! Well, maybe not battle of the ages, but it will be a pretty damn good game and could have some pretty big implications to both the Top 25 ranking and position in the toughest conference in college basketball in the Big East.

It is no secret at this point in the college basketball season that the Big East is by far the best conference this season. Some people may say that the ACC conference is still up there in the running for the season’s best college basketball conference, but Big East teams continue to prove there worth with UConn, Pittsburgh and Marquette getting national attention. From top to bottom the Big East conference is stacked with great teams filled with talent and will probably have a team in the mix when it is all said and done in the NCAA tournament in March.

So far this season the Cardinals and Huskies defenses have been top notch. Rick Pitino’s Cardinals are undefeated in Big East conference play at 8-0, which only Marquette can say the same and although UConn has dropped one conference game to Georgetown earlier in the season, but Jim Calhoun’s squad will be the biggest test for this Louisville team looking to go undefeated in the Big East.

As of right now, the UConn Huskies are the best team in the country in my opinion. They play great basketball on both sides of the floor and are lead by one of the best college coaches in the game with Jim Calhoun leading the Huskies.

The Louisville Cardinals on the other hand have struggled a little bit losing three games this season, but have since rebounded and are legit contenders to win the Big East and possibly make a run in the NCAA tournament come March.

These games in the month of February are the most important in the college basketball season for both Louisville and UConn as they try to win the Big East with only Marquette standing in their way. Who ever wins this match up between Big East heavyweights will have a leg up going into their showdowns with conference leading Marquette.

Although both teams are playing superb basketball right now coming into this game with nine game winning streaks, the UConn Huskies will just be too much for Pitino’s Cardinals. The game will ultimately come down to which ever team can be most dominant on the defensive end of the floor. The Cardinals may put up a great fight against their toughest conference opponent yet, but in the end the Huskies will be too much for Louisville to handle on both offense and defense.

This game will arguably the best college game of the season with two great defenses going head to head, but I really don’t see any team getting the best of the Huskies this season. Uconn +3 over Louisville
