Betting in Advance on College Football Games of the Year
The college football season is upon us and while many bettors are eagerly looking ahead to the first week in September when the first games will be played, most don't realize that you can bet in advance on many of the biggest games of the year. Sportsbook.com has posted lines on all the big games to be played in 2009 all the way thru to the Army vs. Navy game on December 12th.
To some bettors it may seem like a waste to tie up your money for so many months, especially with 50 college football games each week to bet on. But the sharp bettors realize the potential advantages to betting some of these games early. There are many ways you can realize a profit betting in advance. You can do your homework and spot off lines and you can also predict which way the lines are likely to move allowing you to go for some nice middles.
For example, on November 28, Texas Tech is a 4 point favorite at Baylor. Now granted, Texas Tech has lost some players and Baylor figures to be improved, returning several starters from a year ago. But Texas Tech has won 13 straight by an average of 28 points per game. Can you say talent gap? Unless Texas Tech falls flat from the get go, you can expect this line to go even higher setting up a nice middle or allowing you to bet the game at the best number.
Look for revenge games when trying to predict which way the lines will move. The public loves a good story. Payback for the year before will tend to make the number move in that direction once again allowing you to either middle the game of bet at the best line. For example, South Florida Travels to Connecticut late in the year to take on the Huskies who will be looking to atone for last years loss down in South Florida. UCONN is a 6.5 home dog in this one. Interesting in that UCONN has been fantastic at home going 11-2 straight up the last two seasons and 12-6 against the spread as a home dog the last 9 years.
Lots of these lines will move based on what happens in the first couple of weeks of play. For example, if USC comes out of the gate blowing the doors off their opponents you can be sure that every future game with a line posted for USC will move. If you're aware of that and are quick, you can grab some nice advanced numbers on those games.
Speaking of USC, you won't have to wait long. USC is listed as a -3.5 favorite over Ohio State on September 12th. Think you know who the winner is? Can Ohio State get some revenge under the lights in a Nationally Televised clash as a home dog? If you think you know, what are you waiting for?
