Buffalo Bulls Worth a Look as Big Underdogs to Cover Against Pittsburgh

One team that's getting no respect so far this year is the Buffalo Bulls, last years MAC champ. Buffalo is a team that Coach Turner Gill has done a fantastic job with, turning this program around and bringing them from laughing stock to champs in just 3 short years. Last week, Buffalo opened up against Utep. The betting public couldn't push money through the windows fast enough, all on Utep. One way action all the way till kick off where the game closed at Utep -11. What happened? Buffalo went out and won the game straight up, on the road.
So this week, you figure the Bulls might get a little respect huh? Nope. Not yet. Pittsburgh is a whopping 10.5 point road favorite at Buffalo this week at Sportsbook.com. Ok, big things are expected from Pitt this year. Many have them pegged as a Big East Champ and beyond. But we'd really like to see them prove something on the field before we'd be willing to lay 10.5 points with the Panthers on the road.
Last year these two met, and it was a one point game with about 10 minutes remaining before Pitt went on to win 27-16. It's also worth noting that these two had one common opponent last year, Bowling Green. Pitt lost to Bowling Green 27-17 while Buffalo won, 40-34. Buffalo was 8-6 last year but of those losses, one was in overtime, one was by 2 points and another was by a field goal. 5 points and an overtime loss was the difference between 8-6 and 11-3 last year for the Bulls.
While big things are expected from Pitt, their resume from last year isn't exactly sparkling. They won some and lost some in the Big East including a spanking at the hands of Rutgers. But really, no signature wins that made anyone say, whoa, watch out for Pitt in 2009.
We've been high on Buffalo the last couple of years. The have been a classic team on the rise. Prior to Turner Gill taking over the Bulls highest win total was 3. In other years, they were proud winners of 1 or two games each tear. Gill won 2, 5 and then 8 last year, which as we have shown, could have been 11. The betting public still remembers all the 1 and 2 win teams and it shows on the betting boards each week.
Buffalo already knows they can play with Pitt based on last year. They are also playing with a ton of confidence after last weeks win over Utep. They get a crack at revenge, at home this week, and you can be sure Turner Gill will play up the no respect angle for all it's worth.
The Bulls are worth a look this week getting +10.5 or more. They'll also be worth a look the rest of the way anytime they show up as an underdog.
