After last season’s amazing run at the National championship you cannot count out the Kansas Jayhawks of the championship conversation. They may have lost a majority of their key players to the NBA draft before coming into this year they have been solid as season long in the Big 12. As of right now Kansas is the two point underdog against the Michigan State Spartans, but in my honest opinion betting on the Spartans to cover would be foolish. The two point spread is accurate in the way of how close this Sweet 16 match up will be. In fact it should have a similar out come to the Syracuse/Oklahoma game in terms of an upset and a close game, but I really don’t see the Jayhawks losing this one with all their experience and a great coach in Bill Self. I am predicting the upset with the Jayhawks advancing to the Elite Eight, but I can see why the spread is the way it is as of right now with the Michigan State Spartans being the favorite. The Jayhawks did have some pretty convincing wins in the first two rounds against North Dakota State and Dayton, but the Spartans have definitely faced stronger competition to start the tournament especially against the USC Trojans who almost took Michigan State to the limit in round two. This game will without a doubt be close, quiet possibly the most intriguing and entertaining match up in the Sweet 16, but the Jayhawks have proved time and time again that they can play with anyone should . In their last meeting back on January 10th the Michigan State Spartans just destroyed the Kansas Jayhawks 75-62. Both teams have been pretty hot since then with only two losses by both squads in their last ten games, but anything can and will happen in the NCAA tournament. The Jayhawks have a lot going for them coming into this Sweet 16 match up with a 6-0 record against Big 12 teams, a 6-0 against teams on a neutral site as an underdog and Kansas is 5-1 in the NCAA tournament games when they are an underdog. Even though Kansas has some things pretty good things going for them coming into this match against Michigan State, the Spartans actually tilt the scales in their favor with a few more trends going their way which has resulted in them being the favorite against the Jayhawks. Although I still believe Kansas will advance to the Elite Eight the Spartans look pretty good coming into this game. In their last six games against Big 12 teams the Spartans are 6-0 and in the last 19 games in a NCAA tournament in which they were the favorite they have only lost three times. The Spartans may have won the numbers game, but nothing beats experience and the Jayhawks definitely have that. |
