Ole Miss Favored by 10 Over Vandy
Rebels Seek Double Revenge
10/3/09
The Ole Miss Rebels and Coach Houston Nutt did exactly what I was worried
they would do. When Houston Nutt and his football team went from the hunter to
the hunted they weren’t able to get the job done. Houston Nutt has had problems
with that throughout his career at Arkansas. The one good thing for Ole Miss is
when it comes to getting their team excited and ready to play when other people
have given up on them there is no coach better than Houston Nutt. He will have
his kids ready to play and ready to get things going back in the right
direction.
Expect to see an inspired Ole Miss Football team this Saturday when the Rebels
head to Nashville to face Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt came into this season with high
expectations after the way their 2008 went. Vanderbilt ended 2008 with a win in
The Music City Bowl against Boston College, and Vanderbilt was ready to go
bowling again in 2009. Things have not gone exactly to plan so far. Vanderbilt
is 2-2 with losses to Mississippi State and LSU, and their only victories are
against Western Carolina and Rice. If Vanderbilt is going to have a chance at
having a successful season this game against Ole Miss is a must win.
OLE MISS KEY TO VICTORY
The Ole Miss offense coming into the season was supposed to be one of their
strengths. They had QB Jevan Snead coming back and had RB/WR Dexter McCluster
also coming back, but that was not the case last Thursday in their game against
South Carolina. The South Carolina defense shutdown the Ole Miss offense and
Jevan Snead went just 7/21 for 107 yards and 1 TD. If Ole Miss is going to win
this game they have got to get more out of their star QB Jevan Snead, and It all
starts with the offensive line. If Ole Miss’ offensive line is able to give
Snead time he will be able to get the job done, but if he his hurried and isn’t
able to get time to throw it could be another long night for Houston Nutt and
his Ole Miss Rebels.
VANDERBILT’S KEY TO VICTORY
All the Vanderbilt coaches have to do is watch the Ole Miss vs. South Carolina
game to see what they have to do to win this game. They have got to play
aggressive defense, and get to Jevan Snead. The South Carolina defense made
Jevan Snead look like a 3rd string QB because of all the pressure they got on
him. If they are able to do that they are going to give Ole Miss a lot of
problems. Vanderbilt’s defense is allowing just 14 points per game and just 266
yards of total offense. This is a very talented Commodore defense and I expect
them to blitz early and often to try to rattle QB Jevan Snead.
THE FINAL VERDICT
Ole Miss turned the ball over 6 times last year yet still had a chance to beat
Vandy in the final minute of the game. Vandy has won the last two in this series
but Ole Miss has won 12 of the last 16. Vandy has covered 7 of 8 in this series
and is also 9-2 against the spread their last 11 as a dog. The problem for Vandy
this week is going to be on the offensive side of the ball. They put up 36
points on Rice but won't be able to repeat that this week against Ole Miss.
Vandy not the type of team that can play from behind which is where we think
they will be most of the game. It won't be much of a stretch for Ole Miss to
cover the 10 here if Vandy can't score. Lay it! Ole
Miss -10
