Bettorsworld - Official Kentucky Derby Picks
The waiting is finally over. The most exciting two minutes in sports has arrived. 18 colts, 1 gelding, and 1 filly will go postward in the Kentucky Derby. Dreams will be come true for one owner, trainer, and jockey. The rest will be sourly disappointed. Gamblers have the chance for the score of a lifetime if they can nail down the superfecta. The size of the field and the attention on the race makes the Kentucky Derby truly unique from a wagering standpoint. Lets take a look at our top picks and contenders along with exotic plays.
Top Selection: Awesome Act - The European son of Awesome Again has done well in all three of his starts in the United States. At age of two he closed up to finish fourth at a huge price in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf. That has been a key race and he was less than 2 lengths behind the winner. His first race at three saw him skip over the track at Aqueduct to a surprisingly easy win in the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes. After that he looked loaded for bear in the Wood Memorial, but couldnt get to winner Eskendereya and was out bobbed by Jackson Bend for the second place money. We later came to find out that he threw a shoe in that race so we believe jockey Julien Leparoux wrapped him up in the Wood to save horse for the Kentucky Derby. Pedigree is no problem. His daddy, Awesome Again, was a Breeders Cup Classic winner. We expect a brutal pace dual that will cause all of the front runners to fade and maek way for the closers. We expect and hope that this late closer will come fly when they turn for home.
Big Looks To: Mission Impazible is improving well. He was last seen drawing away in the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby. He kicked Delta Jackpot winner Rules butt in a workout. Rule was gassed and Mission Impazible had plenty left in the tank. If the son of Unbridleds Song is mature enough at this point he could light up the tote board at odds of 20-1.
We also like Arkansas Derby winner Super Saver. He took the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club by 7 lengths at the age of two. He will have the services of jockey Calvin Borel who practically owns that track he is so good.
The filly, Devil May Care, is an interesting horse. She will be throwing blinkers on the for the first time. She is lightning quick, but a bit immature. We wont be shocked no matter what she does, but a win may be asking too much.
Florida Derby winner Ice Box is also and interesting horse. If the pace melts he could be the horse to bet. Nick Zito will have him ready to run a big race.
The Favorites: Lookin at Lucky is a very nice horse, but drawing the rail could be a death sentence for the favorite. It seems that if there werent bad luck he would have no luck at all. The son of Smart Strike could bulldoze his way through horses, but that isnt likely to get him a win going 10 furlongs. Sidneys Candy got the 20 hole. We have heard good and bad things about this. Three time Kentucky Derby jockey Gary Stevens had no problems with it so that is good enough for us. If Sidneys Candy can rate a few lengths from the pace he could be tough to hold off when he makes his big move.
WIN: Awesome Act
