UCONN vs. Rutgers
Betting Line: UCONN -6 o/u 41.5
10/9/10
At the beginning of the season who would of thought out of all the offenses
in the Big East like West Virginia with Noel Devine or Pittsburgh with Dion
Lewis that Connecticut would be leading the conference in scoring offense. Even
with that offense though they still have only been able to get 3 wins out of
their first 5 games.
After losing to Michigan in their season opener the Huskies
won 3 of their next 4 with a big win over SEC opponent Vanderbilt last Saturday.
The Big East is wide open this season so at this point anyone could win the
title, so a win over Rutgers would be a step in the right direction under Head
Coach Randy Edsall.
Rutgers season has not gone as well as most fans would have liked. With QB
Tom Savage and WR Mohamed Sanu having a year under their belt, expectations were
relatively high for this team, but after opening the year 2-0 they have dropped
back to back games against a UNC team in disarray from NCAA issues, and a very
bad loss to Tulane last week. The winner of this game will move into the role as
a legit Big East contender while the loser will most likely be in for a long
season. Reduced Juice Wagering Lay -105 or

KEY MATCHUP
It's no secret where this game will be won or lost. You have the #1 scoring
offense in the Big East up against the #1 scoring defense, and not only that but
you have the #1 rush offense against the #1 rush defense. You have one team who
is averaging 35 points a game then you have another team who is allowing just 12
points a game so something has to give. UCONN RB Jeremy Todman has gone over 100
yards in every game this season and has racked up 7 TDs in just 4 games. He is a
game changing player, so who will be priority #1 for this Rutgers defense. The
question is how effective can they be stopping him? And when they use him to set
up the play action pass can you stop the UCONN passing attack? The Huskies don't
have a high powered passing game, but it is efficient especially when they can
run the ball effectively to set it up.
THE FINAL VERDICT
Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano is too good of a coach to let this team crumble
after that embarrassing loss to Tulane. He will have this team ready and in the
end it really just comes down to the balance Rutgers has as a football team.
These two teams are very familiar with each other and over the years, not much has separated the two. Their history is littered with close games and this one figures to be along those lines. Yards per point numbers favor UCONN offensively and Rutgers defensively.
Yards Per Point:
Uconn - offense 11 defense 16 = +5
Rutgers - offense 15 defense 22 = +7
Rutgers appears to be a very live home dog. Rutgers +6
