Federer is the 7/5 'chalk' to win his record-tying seventh Wimbledon title and
record 17th overall major. Rafael Nadal is second at 9/4 odds. Andy Murray
(6/1), Andy Roddick (10/1), Novak Djokovic (15/1) and Robin Soderling (15/1)
round out the top-6.
Federer won the Australian Open this year before losing in an upset at the
French Open to Soderling. That ended his record streak of 23 straight Grand Slam
semifinals.
He was also handed a tough draw despite being the No. 1 seed. Federer is in the
same half as Roddick, Djokovic and former champion Lleyton Hewitt. Still, it
will be a big upset if he doesn't make at least the semis this year.
Nadal won Wimbledon in 2008, but missed last year's tourney with a knee injury.
He's out to prove that's the only reason he's not going for a three-peat. Nadal
has a number of experts saying he's the real favorite and has plenty of value at
these odds.
Murray has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He's trying to become the
first Briton to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936. That's a tremendous
amount of pressure for the 23-year-old from Scotland. He made the semifinals
last year before losing to Roddick.
The American Roddick has made the Finals three times, but has yet to get over
the hump with his nemesis Federer in the way.
The Williams' sisters, Serena (2/1) and Venus (7/2) are the big story on the
women's side. Together they've won this tournament a whopping eight times.
Venus has five of those, including in 2008. Serena is the defending champ after
beating her big sister in the final (7-6, 6-3) last year. Serena is also looking
to make history with her 13th major title (Venus has seven). She already won the
2010 Australian Open.
Other women's favorites are Justine Henin (6/1), Maria Sharapova (7/1), Kim
Clijsters (10/1) and Samantha Stosur (10/1).
