Navy vs. Air Force Free Pick
10/1/11
Navy (2-1) plays host to Air Force (2-1) in this battle of service academies. Last year Air Force was able to snap a 7 game losing streak to the midshipmen and in doing so was able to secure the Commander & Chief trophy as champion of the service academies.
Navy is a very underrated team, their only loss this year was to South Carolina on the road. Chris Proctor returns at Quarterback as he has filled in admirably in spot duty the last 2 years. Navy’s defense lost 9 of 11 starters from last year, but has not missed a beat this season. Navy has been the prime example of a team that replaces parts but the winning machine just keeps going.
Air Force has stated out with a rather easy schedule, they have beaten 2 subdivision teams at home and their only loss comes from TCU. This is Air Force’s first road game of the season; their offense has 7 starters returning including Quarterback Tim Jefferson. The defense has experience with 7 starters returning.
These 2 teams are very familiar with each other, last year Air Force caused many turnovers and the special teams got a blocked punt to get a close win. Both teams will run the ball to create passing opportunities. Navy has covered the last 8 games against the spread. Navy is also 14-2 against the spread versus service academies since 2003. Don’t look for a blow out win, but look for Navy to have an emotional win as this is one of their biggest rivals. A touchdown late will push the midshipman to victory 27-23.
