UCF vs. BYU Friday Night Football Pick with Betting Line Analysis
BYU hosts Central Florida under the Friday Night Lights this week and they'll be out to prove that last week was a fluke after being embarrassed and blown off the field by Utah, 54-10, a series that until that point, has historically been a close one. BYU is favored by -3 at SBG Global yet the early betting action has favored the Knights.
That 54-10 took most people by surprise. It did do because coming into the Utah game, it wasn't the defense that was in question, it was the offense. BYU held Ole Miss to 13 points in a 14-13 win and they held Texas to 17 in a 17-16 loss. We got the impression we were going to see BYU involved in many a defensive battle this year and then BAM, 54-10.
It also took many by surprise because many felt the BYU offense had the potential to be very good this year. Obviously, that has yet to materialize and it doesn't figure to get much easier against a UCF defense that has given up 0, 3 and then 17 last week.
UCF had a fantastic year last season. 11-3 capped with a win over Georgia in the Liberty Bowl. But the knock against UCF is going to be that the schedule they played wasn't exactly a tough one. When they did step up in class a little, they lost, such as NC State and Kansas State while beating up on Marshall and Rice.
Too early to tell this year as far as UCF is concerned but they looked good in wins over Charleston Southern, 62-0 and Boston College 30-3, but lost last week to a good Florida International squad, 17-10.
It's common for bettors to run for the hills as far as backing a team that just lost 54-10 and that's certainly understandable and in many cases warranted. But it can also be the opportune time to hop on board. Anyone who has ever played the game knows that there is nothing worse than practice the week after a performance like that. We also know BYU is capable of playing with good teams as we saw in their first two games with Ole Miss and Texas. If the BYU offense ever gets on track, they could be a force.
It's not going to be a popular choice, and their opponent, UCF is a good one, but were going to go ahead and lay -3 or less here as we look for BYU to at least save a little face. BYU -3 or less.
