UCF Football Preview Predictions and Schedule 2011
Very nice season for the University of Central Florida last year. A 10-3 regular season, another Conference USA title, all capped off with a Liberty Bowl win over a big time SEC school, Georgia. Last season is going to be difficult to top, but UCF has recruited well and has several key players returning, particularly on offense with just about the entire line, QB Jeff Godfrey and running backs Latavius Murray and Ronnie Weaver. The offense averaged 32 points per game last season and should once again be a force.
Defensively UCF had a fantastic year. They were 8th in the nation against the run giving up just 108 yards per game, 8th in the nation in scoring defense giving up just 17 points per game and overall ranked 15th in the nation in total defense. Now, some may look at their schedule and suggest holding a team like Buffalo to 10 points is no accomplishment, but they proved not to be a fluke by holding Georgia, an SEC team that averaged 32 points per game, to just 6 points in the Liberty Bowl.
As long as the UCF defense is able to fill some holes, and the way they've recruited, it shouldn't be a problem, there's no reason UCF can't make another C-USA title run. Their schedule is manageable. They don't play Houston this year, always an threat, and they get Tulsa at home. They'll have to go on the road to face SMU as well as the only C-USA team to beat them, Southern Miss.
From a betting standpoint, we mentioned above the only conference team to beat them was Southern Miss. While UCF won the crown, Southern Miss was likely the best team in the conference last year. Circle November 12th on your calendar. That may very well be the game of the year in Conference USA. UCF will be looking for revenge for a home loss a year ago and Southern Miss will be looking to prove, again, that they are the real top dog in the conference.
We don't see 11 wins in the crystal ball for UCF in 2011. They should have a winning season, and could come close to last year's win total with the season likely riding on the Southern Miss game. Let's call it a 9 win season for coach George O'Leary and the UCF Knights. A win over Southern Miss puts them in the title game, a loss sends them packing to an early bowl game.
