Utah vs. USC Prediction with Analysis

The Utah Utes head to Southern California for a 730 pm est. showdown with USC Saturday night in what will be their very first game as a member of the PAC-12. The game opened up USC -10.5 and the early money has shown up on Utah bringing the number down to -9.5. No doubt a reaction to USC's lackluster performance against Minnesota last week.
Utah meanwhile opened up with an uneventful 27-10 win over Montana State. If either of these teams can be forgiven for a slow start it would have to be Utah potentially looking ahead to this game with USC as it's a big one. First PAC-12 game and first game as a FBS school. The Utes would love nothing more than to prove they belong by taking down one of the most storied programs in college football.
Utah failed in it's biggest tests a year ago. They lost to TCU, Notre Dame and Boise State by large margins. But over the years they have also proved they have the talent to compete with the big boys. They knocked off Alabama in 2008 and went toe to toe with Oregon in 2009 and also own wins over teams like TCU, UCLA, Michigan etc.etc.
So, no surprise here that the +10's went quickly. This isn't the same USC team we saw during Pete Carrols time at the helm. In fact we started to see a demise in his last year. They started losing to teams like Washington and had trouble with PAC-10 (now pac-12) teams they normally beat by wide margins.
If we take a look at these two teams the last 2 years we see two teams not too far apart in the talent department. We won't play a game at +9.5 when we could have had +10.5 earlier, so we'll watch the number here. At +10 we're interested again as Utah should have plenty of motivation working in their favor here.
