West Virginia vs. Maryland Football Pick with Betting Analysis

Maryland hosts West Virginia Saturday at 12 noon est. and is currently a small -1 point favorite at both 5 Dimes and SBG Global. Both teams were 9-4 a year ago, a year in which West Virginia beat Maryland by a score of 31-17. In fact West Virginia has beaten Maryland 5 straight, but there may be reason for hope.
We haven't learned much about either team yet. West Virginia won easily over Marshall and Norfolk State, as expected. Maryland opened up against Miami Florida and won an exciting 32-24 decision but we have to remember that it was a Miami team in all kinds of turmoil. So, with both of these programs it's a learn as we go situation.
These two teams had somewhat similar results last year as far as the quality of the teams they beat as well as the losses. West Virginia hung close to LSU losing by 4 and beat some Big East opponents like Louisville and Pitt, but also lost to the likes of Syracuse and UCONN (Randy Edsall)
Maryland was beaten soundly by Clemson and Florida State last year but beat NC State (who beat WVA in a bowl game last year) and BC not to mention a 51-20 bowl game win, albeit against East Carolina.
So both teams capable while also vulnerable. We see this as a another game where the talent level is even. as a result we give the edge here to Maryland at home. That alone should be worth at least 3 points, maybe more given the renewed interest we saw in their opener against Miami. This looks like a small bargain at -1 or -1.5. Maryland -1
