Hawaii didn’t do anything that well last year besides beating bad teams. They finished near the bottom of FBS in every major statistical category. There are some signs that the Warriors can be more respectable in 2013. They bring in a new QB from Ohio State and return 17 starters to help the process.
Quarterback Taylor Graham hopes to be everything Hawaii wants him to be. He has a lot on his plate considering the last time he played in an actual Game was back in high school in 2009. Head coach Norm Chow has developed a number of QBs in his career which should help get Graham all set for the season. Joining him in the backfield is RB Joey Iosefa who battled injuries all last year. He only averaged 3.7 yards per carry in the eight Games he played in anyway. The line returns Four starters and needs to be the building block for this crew.
The Warriors were worse on the defensive end last year if that was possible. They allowed 47 points to BYU at one point. With a more advanced playbook and eight starters back, they will need to up their Game. Considering the defense only forced 19 turnovers last year, they need to change something. It’s going to be an uphill battle for both sides of the ball due to a rough early season Schedule.

There might not be any point in talking about Hawaii’s opening Schedule just because wins are unlikely. They start against two tough Pac-12 teams and then three of the better teams in the Mountain West. At least it gets somewhat easier from there, although nothing is going to be easy for the Warriors this year especially if they start 0-5.
After beating UNLV by 38 points last year, a road win against the Rebels will be important in early October just to gain some confidence. That Game is followed by Colorado State which also needs to be a win. Road Games at Utah State and Navy follow which will be tough. To finish, the Warriors will travel to Wyoming and then get Army at home.
Getting to five or even Four wins may be too tall of a task for Hawaii this year. Unless Graham comes in and revives this offense, they’ll have trouble winning any Game on the road. That may mean Hawaii is in for another three-win season.
