5 Horses that Can’t Win the Kentucky Derby

Narrowing the Field

5/4/13

Eliminating horses is an important factor when playing the Kentucky Derby. With a field size of 20, you cannot reasonably cover every single horse and hope to come out ahead. Here is a list of 5 horses we don’t like and will not be using on any of Our tickets in Kentucky Derby 2013.

Black Onyx (Rock Hard Ten x Kalahari Cat by Cape Town): This horse cannot win the Kentucky Derby. To put it simply, he’s too slow. He enters this race as the winner of the Spiral Stakes, which was one of the slowest preps of the year. He has beaten nothing in the way of competition and is likely to find himself with too much to do late in the race.

Falling Sky (Lion Heart x Sea Dragoness by Sea Hero): I don’t know how anyone could like a horse that was able to set glacial fractions in the Arkansas Derby and still not could hit the board. Look for this guy to make the front and quickly fade when the real running begins.

Java’s War (War Pass x Java by Rainbow Quest): This one exits a Blue Grass Stakes win where he broke poorly and rallied hard to pass every horse in the race. That effort really took a lot out of him and he hasn’t looked good in the mornings. He could barely keep up while working in company with Arkansas Stakes second place finisher Frac Daddy. Throw in the fact that he is probably a turf horse and he becomes tough to back

Lines of Battle (War Front x Black Speck by Arch): The UAE Derby winner has never fared well in the Kentucky Derby. He is arriving at Churchill Downs with very little time to grow accustomed to his new surroundings. He hasn’t raced on dirt yet either. It would take nearly take a miracle for Lines of Battle to win the Kentucky Derby.

Will Take Charge (Unbridled’s Song x Take Charge LAdy by Dehere): There is a reason this one hasn’t raced since the Rebel Stakes; he’s got some sort of problem. The layoff is going to be too much to overcome and he probably isn’t talented enough anyway. Playing against D Wayne LUkas in the Kentucky Derby has been a very rewarding idea in the last 10+ years.

Now that we have narrowed the field down to 15, this race becomes easier and more realistic to bet. Of course, you could always subscribe to Our Kentucky Derby picks package and let us put years of experience and success in horse racing to use! Get them while you can!
