Georgia Tech

Football Betting Preview

Schedule and Odds

The Yellow Jackets have hit seven wins for two straight seasons now and it’s hard to see them getting past that mark this year. Georgia Tech has some holes to fill on the offensive end and still need to shore up the defense after allowing at least 38 points in Four of their five regular season losses.

Georgia Tech’s first problem on offense comes at the quarterback position. While this is a spread option offense, it still doesn’t help when your QB is undecided going into the fall. Sophomore Justin Thomas seemed to have the job locked down, but after a mediocre spring, Tim Byerly has been making a case for the spot. Whoever starts will have plenty of tools at their disposal.

Surprisingly, wide receiver is one of GT’s most experienced returning spots with DeAndre Smelter and Michael Summers, granted this isn’t a team that passes a ton. Last year’s three leading rushers are gone, but that shouldn’t affect too much with Zach Laskey, Deon Hill and Synjyn Days all capable in this offense. The offensive line is a bit beat up and could end up starting two players who have yet to play a collegiate Game. This is more of a system-based offense and shouldn’t drop too much even with some new names.

The defensive side is where this team usually has its issues. They return seven starters to the unit which should help, but even more so, they are now switching to a new 4-2-5 defense after spread offenses exploited them last year.

The secondary should be Georgia Tech’s strongest unit with Four upperclassmen returning with experience. The front of the defense will be led by tackle Adam Gotsis and senior linebacker Quayshawn Nealy. If the defense can improve, that will put them take a step closer to beating teams like Clemson and Georgia.

After three relatively easy non-Conference Games, the Yellow Jackets Schedule gets real with five straight Games coming against the other top teams in the Coastal division. Road Games at Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Pittsburgh are the obvious hurdles, but even home matchups against Miami and Duke won’t be easy. And then after two weaker ACC opponents, they’ll finish the season with Clemson and Georgia.

The Schedule does not do any favors for Georgia Tech, but as seen last year, they can beat anyone in the Coastal division on their day. Of course, this team isn’t all that consistent and without a quarterback locked in, the offense could be a problem.

Reaching seven wins will be the goal here, although fans are looking for more at this point.
