Odds and Schedule
It seems like a typical season in the SEC East for Georgia. Without any major teams expected to take the division by storm, the Bulldogs are listed as the favorite to win it as usual. But that doesn’t mean it won’t come without problems. Georgia loses plenty of talent, most notably at the skill positions on offense, including quarterback Hutson Mason.
At this writing in late April, Georgia is +475 to win the SEC Championship this year, which makes them the 3rd choice overall behind Alabama and Auburn. They are also listed at odds of 34 to 1 to win the National Championship. Those odds can be found at 5 dimes sportsbook.
Sophomore Brice Ramsey is the frontrunner to take the spot, but that is by no means set. New offensive coordinator Brian SChottenheimer should iNFLux something new, which could help, although this offense doesn’t need much. If they’re smart, Nick Chubb will get force fed the ball like he was at times last year en route to an All-SEC selection. With Four returning offensive linemen, there’s no reason the ground Game can’t be as good as past seasons and they have plenty of depth in the backfield, which is becoming the norm. Malcolm Mitchell is probably the leading receiver, but that’s an area where someone new can step up in.
The Bulldogs lose plenty of talent on the defensive side, but like most SEC teams, they have plenty of talent waiting to take over starting spots. The front seven will have a lot of new faces, while the secondary spots are up for grabs as well. Georgia had one of the best pass defenses last year and that should stay the same with a deep squad. Defense has always seemed to be the trouble for this team against better schools and that could be the case again with Alabama and Auburn on the Schedule. But in most of their SEC East matchups, the defense still has enough talent to shine. This group shutout Missouri and held Auburn to seven points, while also giving up 38 to Florida.
The best thing about Georgia’s Schedule is that they only have three true road Games in SEC play. The bad news is that they get Alabama and Auburn out of the SEC West and have to travel to Georgia Tech this year. This is still a team that looks set to take the East with only Vandy and Tennessee on the road and Florida at a neutral site. Missouri has silently taken the division the last couple years, but doing so again would be something. The Schedule isn’t great for the Bulldogs, but even if they lose to both Alabama and Auburn, can sweep the rest. The October 10th meeting against the Volunteers should be a big one.
