The Kansas City Chiefs have put themselves back in prime position to win the AFC West and potentially to earn a first-round bye in the playoffs. There is still a lot of football to be played, but having a 5 and 2 record is nothing to overlook.
Alex Smith will not play this week, but the Chiefs have one of the top backups in the league in Nick Foles. Foles proved to be a pretty good quarterback while with the Eagles. His time with a horrendous Rams’ offense should not weigh too heavily on his perception. Foles came into the Game and the Chiefs’ offense actually looked better.
against the Colts, the Chiefs had everything going for them on the defensive side of the ball. They limited a high-powered offense to 14 points. Gore was unable to get anything going on the ground, but that is what the Chiefs are designed to do. They control the Game with efficient offense, they don’t commit turnovers, and they stifle you on defense.
The Jacksonville Jaguars regressed even more with their loss to the Tennessee Titans. The Jaguars were down 27 to 0 at halftime. It was another embarrassing Game for them. They could not do anything to stop Mariota or Murray in the first half and could not do anything to get Bortles going in the first half either.
This was a team that many thought could have had a chance to contend for the AFC South title, now they’re in last place in the worst division in the league. That says a lot about how bad they have played this season. What they have going for them is they are young and still have room to grow, but at some point, excuses have to stop and winning has to begin.
The Chiefs are an all-around better team than the Jaguars. Look for the Chiefs to grind away at the Jaguars’ defense with the run Game. They’ll mix in some play action pass to Travis Kelce or Jeremy MAClin. On defense the Chiefs line will create pressure on Bortles and force him into poor throws. Look for the Chiefs to be in control of this Game through its entirety. Chiefs win and cover the spread. Chiefs -7
