Detroit Lions

vs.

New York Giants

Week 2

NFL Pick

9/17/17

By Jason Green

The Lions got off to a good start this season beating the Arizona Cardinals putting up 35 points in the first Game since QB Matthew Stafford signed a contract to become the highest paid player in the NFL. The defense came up with three turnovers in the Game and they hit the road on Monday night to face the Giants, who were embarrassed in their season opener.

The Giants lost badly in their first Game of the season only putting up three points and struggling on both sides of the ball. Star WR Odell Beckham Jr. was out for the Game with an ankle injury and he will be a Game time decision for this Monday night Game.

These teams met last season in the Big Apple where the Giants beat the Lions 17-6.

The Lions beat the Cardinals 35-23 in their last Game where Detroit only had 59 more total yards, but they stuffed the run and they had three INT. Stafford had a solid Game passing for 292 yards with 4 TD and 1 INT with Golden State having 107 receiving yards and rookie Kenny Golladay having 69 receiving yards and two TD. The Lions only rushed for 82 yards with Ameer Abdullah leading the squad with 30 yards on the ground averaging a weak two yards per carry. The Lions offense will be facing the Giants D that GAve up nearly 400 yards and 22 first downs in their opening Game.

The Giants would like to forget about their opening Game of the season where they fell to their division rivals Cowboys losing 19-3. Eli Manning did pass for 220 yards, but with no TD and 1 INT and after Beckham Jr. the New York WR corps is a pretty thin one. They brought in Brandon Marshall in the off-season to the #2 WR, but in the loss to Dallas he only had one catch for 10 yards.

Same old song and daNCe for the Giants, as they failed to run the ball in the loss in their opener. They had a grand total of 35 rushing yards and 2nd year back Paul Perkins led the way with only 16 yards averaging 2.3 yards per carry with a long of three yards.

Key Betting Trends

The Lions are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road Games, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Games overall, and in their last 27 road Games the Under record is 20-7.

The Giants are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home Games, 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 Games following a straight up loss, and in their last 4 home Games the Under record is 4-0.

The road team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 Games between these teams.

Jason’s Pick: I think the Giants will not have Beckham Jr. in this Game and the Giants’ offense will, again, struggle to Scorepoints. On the other side of the coin Stafford and the Lions will be able to move the ball and not only will they cover the spread in their Game, but they will also get the win.
