NFL Pick

12/17/17

By: Jason Green

New England Patriots (10-3 SU 8-5 ATS) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (11-2 SU 6-7 ATS)

Nothing much is at stake in this Game except for possibly the top seed and home field advantage in the playoffs. The Patriots lost their last Game, but if they will this one they have the clear-cut path to the top AFC seed, but if they lose the Steelers will get that distiNCtion. New England had their eight-Game win streak snapped in their last Game and they also lost their first road Game of the season. They beat the Steelers in the AFC title Game last season, but that Game was in New England and even facing the red-hot Steelers the Pats are still the slight betting favorite.

At 5 dimes sportsbook the Patriots are the 2.5-point favorite with a total of 53.

The Steelers are riding an eight-Game win streak and they are coming off a wild comeback win on Sunday night where they beat the Ravens and wrapped up the AFC North crown. Pittsburgh has balaNCe this season and ranks 7th in points against and tied for 8th in ppg and their D will be tested by Tom Brady and company in this Game, which is the biggest one of the weekend.

Not only have the Pats covered the spread in 12 of their last 16 Games facing the Steelers, but have covered in Four of their last five Games against them in Pittsburgh.

The Patriots are coming off a surprising 27-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins where they were the double-digit favorite, but took the loss in the Sunshine State. New England was out-GAined 362 yards to 248 yards, Tom Brady threw two INT, and the Pats only rushed for a grand total of 25 yards. Brady did have one TD and 233 passing yards and Danny Amendola led the team with 76 receiving yards. Dion Lewis led them with only 17 rushing yards and the run Game will have to help Brady out and at least they will be facing a Pittsburgh run D that GAve up 152 yards in their win last week.

Overall, the Steelers 4th in the NFL in pass defense and 9th in run defense. However, in the AFC title Game last season the Steelers GAve up 36 points.

The Steelers are coming of a big-time comeback win over the Ravens where they scored 19 points in the 4th quarter. For the Game they racked up 545 yards and GAve up 413 yards and they forced the Game’s only turnover. With the run Game struggling Ben Roethlisberger went off and threw for 506 yards and two TD and was not picked off with star WR Antonio Brown going for 213 receiving yards leading Four players that had at least 52 yards in the air. Le’Veon Bell did not have the best Game running the ball with 48 rushing yards averaging 3.7 yards per carry, but he did have 77 receiving yards with a TD.

Brady may have to light up the scoreboard for the Pats to pull this one out facing Big Ben and a solid Pittsburgh offense, as on defense they only rank 29th in the league defending the pass and 24th defending the run.

The Patriots are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road Games, 9-2 ATS in their last 11 Games facing a team with a winning record, and in their last 6 road Games they have an Under record of 5-1.

The Steelers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Games facing a team with a winning record, and in their last 4 Games they have an Over record of 4-0.

Jason’s Pick:
This is a big Game and that guy Brady is pretty good in those. He will lead the Patriots to a win and while it will be close New England will cover the spread as well even on the road.
