2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION BETTING ODDS
Betting on Presidential Elections is nothing new.
For as long as there have been elections, there have
been odds posted on the results. Some of the most
famous gamblers ever made their biggest scores
betting on presidential elections. Names like Arnold
"the big bankroll" Rothstein and Jimmy The Greek
Snyder are among the names that come to mind.
Details of their election betting have been written
about in books about them for years.
The beauty of election betting is that it's open
to a wide audience. Not everyone likes football or
basketball, but everyone has an opinion about
politics. Betting on presidential elections can be
thrilling, especially when the election is close.
There are all kinds of opportunities for the savvy
bettor.
Such was the case in 2004 in the race between
George Bush and John Kerry. On election day the
election was up in the air all day and the odds
shifted drastically literally by the hour. Exit
polls incorrectly predicted Kerry as the winner and
those bettors betting as a result of the exit polls
caused drastic shifts in the odds. When the official
returns started coming in and it became evident that
the polls might me wrong, it caused another drastic
shift in the odds.
Betting was fast and furious especially on the
betting exchanges and most sportsbooks kept updating
their odds and kept taking bets well into the night.
Sharp bettors were able to put themselves in no lose
positions by betting both sides. For example, taking
Bush at +150 and then taking Kerry at +150 when the
odds swung.
If the 2008 presidential Election is anything
close to the 2004 race, betting on it will once
again be a thrilling experience. Below are the
