WACHOVIA CHAMPIONSHIP
ODDS
This week the PGA tour heads to Charlotte, North
Carolina for the Wachovia Championship without it's
headlining act - Tiger Woods. Tiger underwent
arthroscopic knee surgery and will be out 4-6 weeks.
Bad news for Tiger, great news for the rest of the
players on the tour as well as for bettors. Take
Tiger Woods out of the equation and it's a wide open
tournament which means possible big scores with long
odds.
With Woods out of the picture, the players to
watch are Jim Furyk at 16-1 odds Vijay Singh also at
16-1 odds. Both have had success and are past
Wachovia Champions. Steve Stricker, who finished 2nd
last year is listed at odds of 25-1.
Just as certain drivers do well at certain tracks
in NASCAR, Some golfers perform well on some courses
and not as well on others. If you want to handicap
golf successfully, going over different golfers
scores on all the different courses should be your
first step.
There are even some software programs on
the market that will do this for you. This can be
especially helpful in a tournament without Tiger
Woods and can also help you handicap the head to
head match ups offered by most sportsbooks.
Another important aspect of golf handicapping is
current form. Simply put, who's hot and who's not. A
quick look at this years stats tells us that other
players to watch are Stewart Cink at 28-1 odds (4
top 3 finishes in 2008), Adam Scott at 14-1 and oh,
who could forget Phil Mickelson at 10-1 odds.
Let's throw in Stuart Appleby as our long shot
pick. He's had 5 top ten finishes in 2008 and is
listed at a whopping 50-1 odds. Could Wachovia be
the one he wins?
