How would centrebet or any other sportsbook know where one was betting from if you could establish a Canadian or an offshore bank account and have winnings credited to there and give them some P.O. Box from Canada to use as a residence address.

Good question. For online betting, it is easy for them to locate where the bets are coming from. How? Everytime you make an online bet you are connecting to a server. That server will have all the informations on who, what, where is that person connecting from. For phone wagering it is easier. When you make an 800 call, they know the exact location and even the telephone number of the person calling. The only way to get around on this, is to let someone set up an account outside US and let that someone do the betting.

Actually, they're not going to care where you're calling from (the operator is not going to be checking this -- except perhaps your initial call). They're more concerned about where your actual residence is, which will eventually involve where you will be receiving payouts. This is a problem in itself.

Hi fellows;
This is my first posting on this board. However I have been following the posts for quite some time now and noticed a lot of the same guestions/answers. What really captured my interest in this post, were the remarks made by Underdog7. By the way, these are very real statements. However, there is another way to place bets, right from good old USA. and that is to have an offshore service provider. Your IP is registered in another country where the actual books are even running their business from. You place your wagers via the internet with the IP registered in an offshore country, where your winnings will be deposited to an offshore account, where you will be issued a offshore debit card, where nothing is ever recorded in the US. How do you think the politicians/people of wealth and means, to name a few, have evaded the system for so many years?
This is just some food for thought.
By the way, the 800 numbers can be bugged and traced, if they origionate from the US. The only way to cover this would be to show that the call origionated from another country. This is called re-direction, and is easy to set up. Talk to your books about this. I'm sure they know what I mean. I hope I brought some light into the room...

If gambling on the NFL was truly illegal - Vegas and everywhere, Bob Costas wouldn't have a job because football wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is.

Better make sure you check off the box that says you have money in a foreign bank, when you fill out your income tax return. http://www.bettorsworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
