When the government begins to interfere and call us criminals next year for online wagering. Where is everyone going to gamble? Any suggestions to get around the government bans yet? or will we have to go back to the days of calling Louie *Knuckles* and take our risks?

All they are doing is putting regulations in place for banks to follow. They really aren't doing anything to ban the act of betting on the internet. Just the act of transferring money via the means we are used to.
Until some new company starts up thats not publicly traded like neteller, you'll just have to send a check or a western union.
But I'm sure it won't be long before a new neteller pops up.
The only reason neteller is bending in the first place is because they have shareholders to answer to, just like the publicly traded sportsbooks.

some sportsbooks are already closed to U.S. residents. The government is criminalizing sportsbooks and most if not all will break. I`m sure at some point ALL U.S. currency and payments will be denied.

Cappermaster,
They are not criminalizing sportsbooks. They are criminalizing the transfer of funds, via certain methods, and in turn, putting the burden on the banks to police it.
The act of placing a wager online at a sportsbook, is no different now in the eyes of the law, than it was one month or 2 years ago.
The justice department, has ALWAYS maintained that sportsbetting online was illegal. They have that take right now, 3 years ago, or 3 years into the future. Nothing has changed.
I'm guessing you are a fairly young guy, or just new to online sportsbetting?
Different operators have been arrested many times over the years for running offshore sportsbooks.
The owner of CRIS has been busted numerous times going back to the late 1980's !!! But CRIS has never closed not even one day.
The sportsbooks that have closed, are british run, publicly traded corporations. They had no choice but to close. They had shareholders to answer to.
The independent books, of which most are, have not missed a beat and will be around for years to come.
There will always be ways to fund your accounts.
I wouldn't overreact.
The sky isn't falling.
You won't go to jail for placing a bet on a sporting event. Millions and millions of americans do so and will continue.

new? ummm..no....young guy? ummm..if 30 is young, then yes. You have to consider the fact that sportsbooks ARE intimidated by the government and the recent arrests of sportsbook operators is not a joke, its real. The government CAN bully sportsbooks till they no longer accept U.S. residents.
What would be a smart and viable option for the government is to legalize online gambling via American casinos. They can ban offshore wagering and effectively enforce it if they allowed casinos to open sites for gambling. It would mean millions of dollars for the government and a regulated format for the players.
If you believe your going to be safe wagering online, roll your dice. The government can and will wield its power if it chooses to do so. Its the sad reality of life.

I don't understand why the govenment has to regulate sportsbooks that are legitimate. Shouldn't they be wasting their time and money on other things???
Just when i get into this stuff, the govenrment has to come screw it all up!

It's not that I disagree with the points you make. I agree about regulating and such.
To a point, you are also correct in saying the govt can bully the sportsbooks. I don't disagree there.
Where I disagree 100% is that you seem to think this is something new that all of a sudden has changed since the passing of this new law.
What I'm saying is, that is simply not the case.
You say, "roll the dice" of you think you're safe wagering offshore.
What do you think we have all been doing for years now?
You should say, "roll the dice" if you want to bet on sports ANYWHERE but Nevada where it's legal.
Because the last time I checked, it was still illegal to be a bookmaker in the Unitied States. Local bookmakers get busted ALL the time. Sometimes they are back in business the next day. Sometimes they fold up shop and stiff all their customers. Is that any different than what can potentially happen offshore?
Another reminder. I mentioned CRIS in my above post.
How about WSEX?
They were busted back in 1998. There are three partners. Two stayed behind to run the business while one, Jay Cohen came back to the states to fight his case. He lost, and went to Jail for a year and a half. But guess what? The sportsbook never missed a beat and kept taking action all along, and today remains one of the largest and most successful sportsbooks in the world.
Guess they aren't too intimidated huh?
Look, if you know where to play, you will always be a million times safer with some of these offshores than with, as you say, "Louie Knuckles". Pinnacle, Grande, Greek, CRIS, just to name a few. They have been hassled, pinched, busted, served time and so on, but keep paying their customers left and right.
The govt will hassle these places from time to time. They ALWAYS have and they always will.
My whole point in all of this is simply that this is nothing new. There is a major overreaction out there and it's mostly an overreaction by those that are new to offshore wagering. By new, I guess I mean those that have only been following this industry the last 2 or three years.
Those that have been along for the ride since the late 80's know this is just another bump in the road.

I'm new to the online sports betting world and I think its pretty lame that once i get into it, the government has to interfere. Shouldn't they be wasting their time and money with other issues???

Jade - try and follow along. This isn't new. They have ALWAYS interfered.
Look at the bright side as well guys. The Democarats will regain control of the house after the elections yesterday. This is a victory for online gambling.

They can't stop us they can only hope to contain us.
3 easy ways to get around the regulation. Send a check, use western union or open a bank account in Canada, (Bank of Montreal).

Brink...I absolutely agree with you about sportsbooks and gambling being around for years...so now were on the same page...I was just more concerned about the increased government interference...and with the democrats in office, I anticipate even more interference.

With the Democrats in office, we have a better chance of regulation.
It was the Republicans that snuck this bill through in the first place with dickheads like Kyl.
Anyone voting yesterday that didn't have other issues they were concerned with, in otherwords, those of you who the gambling bill was above all else, should have gone into the booth yesterday and pulled the lever for the Dems across the board.

Even though it was signed into law, is it possible that it can be brought back up. Im curious how big of an effect the passing of the gaming bill had on the elections. Or do you think it didnt have an effect at all.

Just a thought but the youth vote was fairly high this year and in favor of the Dems. Has to be a sign that the gaming bill had a larger effect then what the Repubs thought. Just curious of eeryones thoughts.

I was reading where there was a big effort put forth in Arizona by some gambling businesses, mostly poker sites, to oust Kyl.
They suppossedly contacted all their Arizona customers, a significant number when adding up several companies lists combined, and asked them to vote against Kyl.
It may have had an impact, making the vote closer than originally thought, but it wasn't enough.
Overall, I would say the gambling bill had no impact.
The win for the democrats was basically a statement by America, the youth particularly, that they have had enough of this "war" and Iraq.

Did you think the Repubs thought that the gambling bill would have a little effect? I think they knew exactly what they were doing, trying to regulate everyone and their mothers!
