Believe it or not but the Celtics 18-game losing streak will eventually going to end. That said, we can’t think of any better time than tonight against Milwaukee. It is imperative that the win comes now because if the Celtics don’t beat the Bucks tonight, they’ll take a 19-game skid into a five-game road trip (against Kings, Suns, Lakers, Jazz and Rockets). Playing with those West powerhouses on the road means that the Celtics face the possibility to put themselves in the history books with 24 straight losses. This, however, would be a record the Celtics desperately try to avoid.
With Paul Pierce back in business the Celtics looked almost good against the Wolves on Sunday. In his second game back, Pierce had 29 points in 32 minutes. Although his play still needs work, he reminded us why Boston is so much better when he is on the court. During the losing streak the Celtics have lost so many close games. With Pierce on the floor, the Celtics have the ability to win those games.
In December, the Bucks averaged 108 points per game as they went 11-6 and were one of the higher-scoring teams in the league. In the last 19 games in which they have been without Michael Redd, they have averaged 92 points and have gone 3-16. Williams, Bogut, Patterson and Boykins have done their best to keep the Bucks somewhat competitive but still this team hasn’t been good enough to win games.
So yes, we think that the Celtics are actually going to win tonight. They are motivated and would like to stop being the subject of public ridicule. The Bucks are coming off a hard home game against Dallas. They lost it while Patterson and Bogut logged more than 41 minutes and Williams and Boykins around 37 minutes to keep the game close. Those guys are going to start feeling those minutes tonight. Medium stakes.
