  • BIG 10 Basketball Tourney

The tourney kicks off Thursday and is
    played in Indianapolis Indiana

Illinois opens a 8 point chalk vs Penn State

    A Look at Penn State

    PSU 52- Illinois 51
    PSU 68 Illinois 64

PSU is coming off a big home victory
over Indiana, In this game Penn State started
    4 freshmen

PSU has lost two key players Geary Claxton
January 15 and now Jameele Cornley
(Cornly is the Big 10 version of Charles Barkely)

Losing these two players account for 35 points
    a game and 16 rebounds.

PSU is a poor free throw shooting team and
lack Inside presence on the glass.

    A LOOK AT ILLINOIS

Brian Randle will play vs PSU he had
12 boards vs Minny last game also
    Rodney Alexander will also play

Chester Fraizer Illinois PG who is
    a defensive specialist is questionable.
Chester left the game at assembly hall
with an air cast and on crutches. I suspect
he may see a few minutes of play but will
    be limited.

Illinois is a POOR FT shooting team, they lack
confidence and suffer from late game break downs

The only positive I see vs Penn State is
Illinois Defense, which will close down the
3 point shot and the Inside Game on the Boards
    Illinois should dominate the glass.

    Carpets Floor View

The tourney is played in Indiana and I would
suspect that the fans there will always pick
a Dark Horse to win. Illinois is not going to be
a local fan favorite, no matter who they play.

I dont like Illinois beating any team by 8 points

The line is Inflated and I suspect it is due
to a couple reasons. First the loss of Penn
States Interior Big Guy (Remember he didnt play
    vs Indiana and Penn Won)
And It is very hard to beat a Team 3 times
    in a season.

My numbers show Illinois by 7 no more than
that, I will be laying on the floor watching the
line as we move closer to game time.

I am looking at the Iowa/Michigan game.

I think Michigan is the play for sure at +1. Iowa has one legit player in Freeman, the others are hacks. Unitl Licklighter can get his own guys in there, they are lost....I bet he wishes he was still at Butler right now.

Michigan is scrappy and improved over the course of the year.

They have the #6 rated schedule according to Saragins rating to Iowas #77.

Iowa use to have advantage when they played the tourney in Chicago, but now its in Indy. Chicago has a huge Iowa alum base and if it were there, I may play them, but now the 'neutral' court favors Michigan as well as the talent.

I think Michigan should be favored.

Play is Michigan +1 for me.

Also through a couple bucks on Michigan State 5/1 to win the tourney. They are the 3rd best team right behind Indy and Wiscy. And I agree with you saying that Wiscy is overrated too.

probably have to pass onthe Illinois game myself as that line is right on.

So what are you thinking? I am still passing on this one. Did play Michigan.

I think there are better games on the board than this one. I hope illinois wins and gets rolling!

Sorry my computer has been down last day or
        so

        Good Call On Michigan

I knew Illinois would not beat any team by 8
points, it is not in thier nature.....

        A LOOK AT FRIDAY

        Purdue -5.0 vs Illinois

Purdue will roll over Illinois, this
game will not even be close

        Wisky -13.0 vs Michigan

A road game for the Badgers they win
straight up but not by 13

I agree with you Carpet on the Illini game.

Purdue's defensive is aggressive and they should shut down the Illini.

I was projecting the spread to be 8 with Purdue winning by 10-12. I am just concerned that the line is off. Oh well, maybe too many games for the guys in Vegas to set a firm line.

          Take care!

I agree here. Figure the number should be around 8. Though for those using public %'s as part of their handicapping, note that the figure is as high as 90% in favor of Purdue......
