  • History of Home Dogs in AFC/NFC Championship Games (1977 to current)

    Oh how I forget.

Cardinals in 2009 and I froze my ass at the 89 SF/CHI game, where I actually left mid-way through the 3Q. That's when I began to hate the Bears.

    Here's a rundown:
Date Team Opponent Point Spread H V O/U
    01/07/79 ST. LOUIS RAMS DALLAS 3.5 0 28
    01/06/80 TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS ST. LOUIS 3.5 0 9
    01/11/81 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES DALLAS 1 20 7
    01/10/82 SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS DALLAS 3 28 27
    01/22/83 WASHINGTON REDSKINS DALLAS 2 31 17
    01/08/89 CHICAGO BEARS SAN FRANCISCO 2 3 28 35
    01/17/93 MIAMI DOLPHINS BUFFALO 2.5 10 29 41
    01/11/98 SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS GREEN BAY 1.5 10 23 43.5
    01/14/01 NEW YORK GIANTS MINNESOTA 1 41 0 41.5
    01/23/05 PITTSBURGH STEELERS NEW ENGLAND 3 27 41 36.5
    01/18/09 ARIZONA CARDINALS PHILADELPHIA 3.5 32 25 47

    So, HD 5-6 SU/ATS since 1977

Two interesting takeaways: 1, home dogs in the championship are pretty rare. 2, all the road teams that won had margins of at least 7 points, many far more than 7 points. Not a single win came down to a FG.
