Like most of you, the prospect of the 1/2 point conversion change led to many sleepless nights. What would the impact be to the line? Certainly, I am destined to lose a game because a missed extra point fails to cover the spread.
We already felt the impact last night. First, the Steelers trolled the Patriots by scoring a 2 point conversion with a hard slant pass from the 2 (anyone else catch that one?). But more to the point, with no time remaining, the Steelers faced one of the biggest decisions of the NFL season:
Go for 1 in wet conditions with a shaky kicker who had already missed 2x to PUSH the spread...
OR...
Go for 2 and COVER the spread and piss off Patriot fans everywhere.
They went for 1 and I've never been so nervous for an extra point. Would the Vegas Gods allow such a thing as a PUSH in this game? They did. And 1 game out of 256, we've already seen how this new rule will wreck havoc on us bettors with yet another distinct element of unpredictability.
