  • Tonights QB rotations and starters guide

DETROIT - (08/12 02:38am) The News reports Joey Harrington and Jeff Garcia both probably will play about a quarter. Rookie Dan Orlovsky will finish. HC Mariucci wants Garcia to play with the starters at some point during the exhibition season. Tonight is a good time for that.NY JETS - (08/12 02:41am) The Post reports Jay Fiedler, with Chad Pennington sitting out, will start tonight. Starters will be in for 15-20 plays. Fiedler is expected to play the first quarter, followed by Brooks Bollinger and then, perhaps, Kevin Eakin. Curtis Martin is expected to get four or five carries tonight.

NEW ENGLAND - (08/12 04:06am) The Globe reports many of the team's veteran stars (Tom Brady, Corey Dillon, Richard Seymour, and Rodney Harrison) could play as little as one series. Quarterbacks Doug Flutie and Rohan Davey have each looked sluggish in practice. The two should play a similar amount tonight, with Matt Cassel cleaning up late.

CINCINNATI - (08/12 04:17am) The Enquirer reports starters might not play more than a quarter. HC Lewis has not said how much action his first-string players will see.

CHICAGO - (08/12 04:31am) The Daily Herald reports HC Smith wouldn't divulge much about his planned playing time for starters tonight. "Normally, we play them a little bit more in the second game, but we really haven't decided exactly how long," Smith said. "As we told our guys this week, 'You play until you're out.'"

KANSAS CITY - (08/12 04:50am) The Star reports QB Todd Collins is expected to get the majority of the snaps tonight. Offensive coordinator Al Saunders said the tentative plan is for Trent Green to start with the No. 1 offense in the first quarter, then Collins will take over in the second quarter and play into the third. Damon Huard is expected to see time later in the third quarter, and the Chiefs hope to get a few fourth-quarter looks at rookie James Kilian. RB Priest Holmes will play five to seven snaps. "I'm healthy, and I know what I can do," Holmes said Monday.

MINNESOTA - (08/12 05:17am) The Pioneer Press reports HC Tice said most starters will play 12-15 plays Friday before giving way to the second and third teams.

TAMPA BAY - (08/12 05:19am) The Times reports QB Brian Griese will start tonight, but will be relieved early in the first quarter by backup Chris Simms. Simms is expected to start the second half before giving way to Luke McCown. "But again, that could change, you never know," HC Gruden said. "We could go to Luke McCown. We want those guys to feel just like they feel on game day, a snap away from going out and playing." It's unlikely fans will see much of RB Carnell Williams tonight. While he's in, Williams will be playing behind a makeshift offensive line that is without injured starters Derrick Deese and Matt Stinchcomb. Backup RB's Michael Pittman, Earnest Graham, Ian Smart and rookie Derek Watson will split most of the carries.

TENNESSEE - (08/12 05:08am) The Tennessean reports HC Fisher has formulated some of his personnel plans for tonight. He said QB Steve McNair will get some early work, followed by Billy Volek, and Gino Guidugli will be the third QB in line. "Gino's done well. He's picking things up," Fisher said. "It's a combination of his turn in the rotation and where we are." Shane Boyd will be fourth in line, though the Titans rarely make it that deep. Jason White has retired. RB Chris Brown will start, but Travis Henry will also see early action working behind the first-team line. Henry may also work some behind the second line. Jarrett Payton will be third in line, fifth-round pick Damien Nash fourth and undrafted rookie Walter Reyes fifth.

SEATTLE - (08/12 06:00am) The Post-Intelligencer reports QB Matt Hasselbeck will play the first quarter or so with Seneca Wallace scheduled to replace Hasselbeck. HC Holmgren said the starters who play Friday will be in for about one quarter.

NEW ORLEANS - (08/12 06:20am) The Times-Picayune reports the starters will play a quarter and a half, HC Haslett said. QB's Aaron Brooks and Todd Bouman each will play a quarter and a half, and Adrian McPherson and Kliff Kingsbury will split the fourth quarter. Haslett wants his first-team units to be on the field more than they have in the past in the first three exhibition games. "We're going to make sure they're ready to go," he said. "We've got a line that hasn't played together too much. We've got to get them squared away."
