    WORLD SERIES HYPE THREAD

Ain't gonna sugarcoat anything, or give you 90 reasons and statistics as to why the St. Louis Cardinals will spring the upset in this series, just a couple.

    1. The Tigers fleet of rookie pitchers Verlander, Robertson, and Bonderman will succumb to the pressures of the Fall Classic and the media hype, and the aggresive Cardinal line-up, and along with their tired arms will come up ineffective for the most part.....Sure they handled Oakland pretty easily, but hitting slumps are contagious and that's what did the A's in.........The guy that actually pitched the best was Kenny Rogers, but you saw how he got bombarded in the All-Star game by the National League hitters.....Expect more of the same.

    2. The designated hitter rule can only help the Cardinals and hurt the Tigers......A couple of the Tiger pitchers haven't held a bat since high school (alright I tend to exaggerate a little) and the Cardinal pitchers have the ability to play "small ball" and execute the little things if that's the way La Russa decides to approach it.

    3. Rolen has played a little more formidable of late, and you can't fault his competitive spirit, and Pujols is about to explode at any minute.....Watch Bonderman serve it up like a dinner plate.

    4. The odds are right on the money.....and delicious.

    5. Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez will choke when he's in the limelight (like he always does) and the load will be too much for Ordonez and company to handle.

    6. The only one who can blow this series for the Redbirds is La Russa if he starts his "over-managing" shit again.......But by the same token, Jim Leyland is highly overrated, albeit one lucky son-of-a-bitch.

Gonna put a small play on the Cards tonight, another one on the sweep........And a "high dose" on the Series victory.....Let's get lucky as we go along......Not a big deal if they lose tonight, but it would be awfully nice to get a quick start out of the blocks.....Good Luck guys and let's hear YOUR opinions.

Wow just a little bias are you. I would seriously disregard this thread but i give you credit for the last series. I just dont see what you like about the cardinals so much. Two things that i dont like the whole world thinks this is going to be detroits series. The time the Tigers had off. Those two things really scare me. I think realistically the cards are out of there league from top to bottom. Leyland is not over rated. Truthfully I can not stand the cards. I hate La Russa and his conspiracy theories he has. The good thing about the seven game series is that the best team always wins regardless. Pujols can catch fire and i dont think they stand a chace. The mets look as if they did not care if they won or not. They were hurt and it showed. The Tigers have something to prove. I wish i could put money on the cards for the series but i consider it to much of a gamble. Im thinking tigers in 5. This will be there hardest game i believe. Good luck taking the over tonight.

Great call Boone and also I wanted to sorry for the "whatever" Thing. It's just that I do not like St Louis..Now about this game, I also took St.louis (easy to say after) but I really did cuz I just thought Det would be a little cold with the time off. I really hope detroit wins this and I see it going 6 or 7 games..but anyway, Gtrat call and good Luck the rest of the way....Oh, BTW. You shouldn't of taken Purdont..

Yeah that "Pur-don't" thing is an old thing that my brother and I would call them because they never covered the spread, or else we would say they "Pur-didn't".....Anyway, I think I just posted them as my pick so that I could use the joke, I've always said that I suck at CFB, for me, it's just so much more difficult to handicap than the pros.

I don't blame "Jpehl" for saying that my opinion was biased towards the Cards, but honestly i have never cared for them either......Hell, I'm a die-hard, bleed Dodger Blue Dodger fan.........to boot, the Cardinals have burned alot of my money over the last couple of years, and don't forget that they whipped the Dodgers all 7 games they played this year.......I just figured that they matched up with this young Detroit team, that contrary to what 'Jpehl" said, have nothing to prove......they have completely turned the organization around (damn near lost 120 games three years ago) and they will be good for a long time to come......If anything, I think they actually overachieved so far this year, and could still take it all........but I would bet on it like 80% of the gamblers did (smile).......Good Luck in the NFL tomorrow, and thanks Rick for the compliments.

Kind of expected this game to go in favor of the cards because of the rest. Played the over, luckily monroe helped me out. Didnt really expect the tigers to make reyes look that good. Thought it would be a little closer. One thought rain is suppose to be moving in over night. If this carries over to the game it could really hurt Detroit. Really like detroit to show up tomorrow.

Honestly last night i sat and looked at the cards winning in four games and winning in five and thought damn why not waste a few bucks. I didnt. I just dont like the cards. I just couldnt pull the trigger on them. I dont regret it. I expect a good game tomorrow. Expect Washington to cover. Good luck

Hey Jpehl, gambling on sports is all about instincts, gut -feelings, hunches and of course luck......Don't EVER bet with your heart whether it's love or hate for a team........You said you just couldn't bet the Cardinals because you hate them......Hell, I hate ANY team that beats me, but that shouldn't be a handicapping factor.

My deal is to throw most stats and figures out the window because they do nothing for predicting the future, the teams still have to play the game regardless of how one-sided it looks on paper.......Just like tonight, most guys playing this game will most likely go in two-fisted with money on Detroit simply because they lost at home last night.......Why should that matter?.......Does that automatically mean they can't lose again tonight?.....What's the difference?

I see the Cardinals winning again tonight, and then perhaps dropping the game at home when Carpenter pitches......he just hasn't been the same pitcher that he was before the All-Star break......Not gonna go too heavy (that wouldn't be very smart with the possibility of a Cardinal sweep still alive at +1,750), just a little something to celebrate with when Rogers falls apart early do to "rustiness" (kinda like Verlander last night).......Regardless, Good Luck guys.

No there was no heart in my choice not to choose the cards. Just thought it was stupid. Hey you know for you i really hope you hit the four game sweep honestly. You called the last five games hell you deserve it. This is an ackward game tonight i think, two pitchers that have thrown very well in the playoffs. Weaver i keep thinking he will blow up but he proves me wrong. Rogers you cant help but to root for this guy. Love the emotion shows the love for the game. Its nice to see every now and then. Let me think for a sec and ill come back with a post/prediction. Is there anyone else who hates to pick with the public. Thats my concern about this series.

                        Nice Call Mr Boone

                        You have read my mind

Card's are ready to play, no rest, sharp
and as you put it, Pujols and Rolen are
ready to play, combine that with
the best 2 pitchers in National League Baseball
it make a very even matchup.....

                        Tonights game 2......

Cold 40 degrees at start Snow by the 6th inning
Winds Right to Left at 20mph blowing into
                        a spacious Left Field,

Both pictures will have problems in containing
any fly ball hit into Left tonight

                        Miserable conditions for Baseball

It's a total coin Toss tonight, but give me 1.5
anyday any game vs Detroit and gotta take it...

                        Good Luck all

Don't feel bad Carpet.....Check out in my post #5 where I accidentally put "I would bet on it like 80% of the betting public", instead of would not .......Also, in post #8 where I put that Rogers would not have it tonight "do" to rustiness, instead of "due" to rustiness.......Anyway, my excuse is early Alzheimer's setting in (I'll be 48 on Thursday).....what's your's?......Just kidding guy......enjoy the game and Good Luck.
