  • College Hoops plays and Discussion Jan.20-25

Ok, no more footbal really for a while solets talk some college hoops.

I started off hot but cooled a bit. I am still just over 54% on the year and up just over 8 units in college hoops at www.sports-bettors.com monitor here at BW.

So please chime in and let me know what you are liking in college hoops.

I have been watching a handfull of teams over the past few weeks so you may see me playing on or against a few of the same teams quite a bit. I like to play dogs or if I do like a couple favs, I may play them in ML parlays, but I like to stick to home Favs when I do that.

So I am really going to dig in from now until tourney time and try to grind out a profit. Many of my plays have nothing to do with stats, but more with looking at the line and playing contrarian a lot of the time.

Please chime in as you please and provide your insight into these threads!

    Tuesday:

Ball State +3 over Western Michigan...BSU star is out but still like them here as on paper they look even with record and SOS. WMU has come out 3-0 in conf play but think that ends tonight.

Central Michigan +4 over Toledo...Crap game but Toledo is crappier. Have to take the points here with a more balanced CMU team even on the road. Both 1-2 in conf play so far.

NC State +11 (1st half) over Duke...Been playing the 1st half angle here and there as it seems teams can hang for at least a holf before running out of gas. I particularly like dogs of 9 or more in the halftime line.

I have Illinois pk in the second half of a ML parlay with Providence from last night but would lean OSU with the points.

Michigan +3 looks temptingon the road at Penn State but I think I will pass as PSU haas improved and its a tricky line.

    thats probably all for now.

    "Good plays Woody!"

    'Thanks invisible college hoop guy"

    "No problem"

    Adding 2 more--

    ML parlay-
NIU/Colo State...2 bad road teams on the road. EMU is just plain bad anywhere.

    5 pt tease:

    Michigan +7
    Vandy +6

The first half angle is a good one to explore. There are plenty of teams that can play with any team in the country for a half but simply don't have the bench to compete the entire game.

Along the same lines, 2nd half wagers can be profitable where the opposite is true.

Perfect call on the NC State 1H! I couldn't get 1H at my book and was afraid to take +20 for the game which would have won, but barely.

I went big with Penn State.

You got your Illinois filler. Sweating out CSU at this time.

        GL tomorrow.

Nice call with Penn State. I think Michigan teased us that they were decent in the early going. I think the only safe bet with them is when they are at home from here on out.

Tenny looked solid too against Vandy so my teaser loses.

Ball State cashed, but CMU just plain sucks!

I grabbed these early for Wednesday:

Baylor +4 at k-State...nice value here on a good baylor team, but K-State is winless in the big 12 which scares me a bit motivation-wise.

George Mason +4 at Northeastern...Maybe I am missing something but the class of the Colonial getting points against an up and comer. I think this line should be more like a pk myself. Will take the points all day with Mason here.

            Couple adds;

            1st half plays-

            Clemson +8.5 over UNC

            Rutgers +6 over L'Ville

            Games-
            Utep/Uab OVER 147

Utep +7 over UAB...UAB had to play Monday and I think they may affect them a bit here in a track meet type of game that couls be 100-99 when its all said and done!

            Looking closely at:

Iowa +3 vs. Wiscy..Wiscy of a loss which is scary and hawks have trouble scoring at times but sold on home court.

I have been having pretty good success with 5 pt teasers lately...anywhere from 3-5 teams. I feel the need to jinx myself so here goes.

                5 pt teaser
#7 Michigan St -6.5 vs Northwestern - Mich. St. has won 28 in a row at home and the last 21 at home vs Northwestern. They are 5-0 in conference play so far. Northwestern is 1-4 away and in conference play. Mich St has won their 5 conference games by an average margin of 8.6 pts, with 3 of those on the road. They have already beat Northwestern by 11 on the road. In their 2 home conference games they beat Ohio St by 9 and Illinois by 6. Northwestern has lost at Penn St by 4 and at Wisconsin by 29. Last year, Mich St won both match-ups, by 15 and 16 pts.
#3 UConn -4 vs #20 Villanova - UConn has only lost once all year. Since their loss to Georgetown, they have reeled of 5 conference wins in a row. They have some pretty impressive wins, winning at Wisconsin by 19, at Gonzaga by 5 and at West Virginia by 6. Villanova is 0-3 vs top 25 teams, where as UConn is 3-1 vs top 25 teams. Uconn has also played the much tougher schedule (53rd toughest vs Villanova's 161st ranking). UConn averaging nearly 80 pts per game and making nearly 50% of their FG's.
#9 Louisville -5 at Rutgers - Louisville has played well on the road, and Rutgers is just 6-6 at home and 0-5 in conference play so far. They are also 0-5 vs top 25 teams. Louisville has played the 31st toughest schedule and are 13-3, whereas Rutgers is just 9-9 playing a weak schedule (206th). Rutgers has lost 6 games in a row, losing 4 by double-digits. They did play Marquette and Pittsburgh tough but still lost by 5 and 6. Hopefully Louisville won't take them for granted. Last year Louisville won both match-ups, by 15 at home and then by 37 on the road.
#10 Clemson +18 at #5 North Carolina - These teams played 3 times last year with Clemson losing all 3 but by a total margin of just 17 pts., with 2 of the games going into OT.
NBA - Detroit -1/2 vs Toronto - 2 struggling teams, with Toronto losing their last 6 in a row and Detroit winning just once in their last 6. Detroit has dominated Toronto in Detroit though, winning 12 of the last 13 here. Toronto PG Jose Calderon still out.

You have to hit 5 and you only get 5 pts! That's tough.

Yeah, it is. You need to pick very strong favorites....ideally to where you can tease them done to -1 or less. And really good dogs that have a chance to win, or at least hang very tough.
Here are my last 5. As you can see I don't bet much on these. More for just a little fun.

George Mason and UTEP both lose but cover! Baylor looking good at halftime. Also won with Florida and UMass both by half a point.

But I lost with Illinois State, Drake and Drake over.
