  • Saturday CFB picks - Week 1

A few games I like today.

S.Miss -15.5 vs UCF - The Golden Eagles seem to have Larry Fedora's offense down pat. Fedora has great credentials, having worked with the powerful Florida and Oklahoma State offensive systems. In his second year now, the S. Miss program is coming off of a record setting statistical season and should get even better. They closed last year with 5 straight wins, including 57 and 18 pt wins over UAB and eventual CUSA champ E. Carolina, and opened up this season with a 52-0 thrashing of Alcorn St.while racking up 631 yds off offense, including nearly 400 yds on the ground. S. Miss handled UCF last year, winning by 11 on the road and holding an astounding 41:56 to 18:04 time of possession advantage. Line has moved from -14.5 to -15.5.
Purdue +13 at Oregon - Oregon looked terrible in their 19-8 loss at Boise St last week, plus they lost RB LaGarrette Blount for the season due to suspension. Oregon only returns 9 starters from a year ago, and only 5 to a defensive unit that gave up an average of 33.6 pts per game over their last 5 games last year. Purdue was explosive offensively against Toledo last week, racking up 52 pts and 535 yds of offense. Purdue took Oregon to OT last year in an eventual 32-26 loss.
Washington -20.5 vs Idaho - The Huskies looked pretty good against LSU last week. They had to deal with injuries last year, including the loss of QB Locker who passed for over 300 yds with 51 rushing yds against LSU. They should have no problem with an Idaho team that gave up 42 or more pts 9 times last year with their 117th ranked defense.
