  • Early Super Bowl Thoughts

After seeing these two teams today, I think the line should be Colts by a touchdown. Instead of the -4 where it opened. This line might climb fast.

Manning will EAT this Saints secondary alive.

Could break Super Bowl records for passing yards........

Saints are damn lucky and didn't deserve the win in my opinion....and yes, going in, it was the matchup I wanted.

Towards the end of the game....I was rooting for the Vikings.

My place is up to 5.5 already. Wonder how high it will go. I want the 7 with the Saints, don't know if I should buy it right now or wait and see.

I think these 2 teams are pretty even. I'd rate the QB's even, passing games even, defenses about even and give the slight edge to the Saints in the running game and special teams. I really thought Indy would open at about -2 to -3. Having said that, I would expect the Colts to win but would be tempted by the points and the Saints, especially at anything over 4. I thought the Saints deserved the win and should have won by more, given the opportunities.

Right now I see 5's and 4.5's. With that in mind, I don't see it going any higher than 6.

Super Bowl lines tend to be pretty stable once they settle in.

And, my reaction is off of todays games, which is also what the early action is likely based on.

Once you break down each teams entire seasons, you'd probably have to say the two best teams are in the game....

But you want to see teams win the conference championship with a purpose, like the colts did.

The Saints played terribly with the exception of grabbing some turnovers.

How many 3rd and longs did the Vikings convert? I'd feel pretty good about that if I was Manning.

I agree with just about every word you wrote, dragon. Remember the Saints may not have looked as good as the Colts at the final gun, but the Saints played a much better all-around team, and I am a Jets fan.
I would think the 2 Saints playoff wins make for a better resume than the 2 Colts ones, if that is worth anything.
Should be a very interesting game, and I would love any points that I can get. I am already sitting on a Saints to win the Bowl ticket from before the season started, so we know where I am rooting.

            Oh, and one more gripe.

When will players in non skill postions, ie 350 LB linemen learn to FALL ON THE BALL and not try to pick it up and run with it????? You're getting paid millions to play this game. PLAY IT RIGHT!!!

I'd have to disagree on the quality of the wins. I don't think too much of the Cardinals.

Manning was impressive against two of the better defenses out there. The big question mark for me will be the Colts defense against the Saints offense.

Give the coaching edge to the Saints based on experience in big games.......experience in general.

Should be interesting. Good chance I'll change my mind once I dig into the matchup a little more.......we'll see.

I just thought is was one of the more poorly played championship games, by both teams, in a long time.

Not to mention I'm disagreeing with two guys who have had their finger on the pulse of the NFL this year by way of their fine performances in the Hilton Contest.......so take anything I say with a grain of salt

I've crunched the numbers and my system has Saints -4. About a 9 point difference. I'm going to Vegas next weekend and laying $100 with the points and $100 on the money line.

The scary thing about all of this is that the spread only opened at Colts -4.......they should be favored by anywhere between 9 - 11 points and they're not............That bothers me because I hate it when it looks this easy.......They should win as easy as they please.

Today I had my money on the Colts and Vikings, and my only losing bet was on the under on the Minn/Saints game........So I'm not speaking out of bitterness............but it took 5 turnovers by Minnesota, and the homefield advantage (probably the biggest home-field advantage out of all 32 teams in the NFL), and some pretty favorable calls by the refs in overtime, to beat a Vikings team that endured some cheap shots against Favre -- all game long, to prevail in this game.

The Saints were totally outplayed, out yarded, and out-classed by a team that couldn't hold on to the ball today, and Minnesota has struggled on the road all year.............and these Saints are playing like the proverbial "team of destiny"..........but the shit will hit the fan in Miami, and they won't have the home crowd to rely on......so unless they come up with a game for the ages, they'll get mauled by Peyton Manning and Company by 14 points or more.

The Saints struggled against teams like Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Washington late in the year, all teams with losing records -- but have lived to fight another day............but I say the bubble bursts, and the clock strikes 12 on these overrated, over-hyped also-rans come the first Sunday in February...........Final Score: Colts 38 Saints 24
                    ;)

My wife loves Peyton, I wagered on the Jets. I told her at the half, I've never seen the expression on Peytons face after 2 quarters of play like I did today. He was totally pissed. I told her at that point, I was screwed. Superbowl two weeks away. Rule number 1, don't piss off a superstar: be it Peyton, Tiger, or MJ. In the end, you will pay as I did on the Jets today. The hype was on the Jets today, like the Cowboys last week. I bought into it like many others. I'm thankful that I wagered on the Vikes +4 1/2.

I agree. I was yelling the same thing the whole game. They try to be heroes and pick it up for the TD instead of just falling on it.
BTW, I agree the Saints played a shitty game. I think it was more the play calling than anything. They don't need the tricks, which never work for them anyway. And I thought they called a game similar to the Chargers did, forcing the run on 1st down and not playing to their strength, which is the passing game. Dumb plays on 3rd down too. It almost cost them the game, just like the Chargers.

I saw that look too and also commented to my wife that the Jets were in trouble

Thats what I thoiught to in regards to the play calling for N.O.

Lot of 1st and 2nd down runs into where the Vikes are tough, upfront.

I think if they would have thrown more, it would have been a different game with all those Minny turnovers.

I am a bit of Vikings fan so I am just finally not kicking stuff around this morning, but still disappointed in Bret's last decision. Run and Slide and at least give Longwell a chance. Could have lived with a missed FG, but a mistake like that hurts and makes a long, good season worthless.

I had the OVER in the game so came away happy with that at least.

But anyway, I am leaning Saints at this point, but don't know what I will do for sure. Like all Super Bowls, its probably my smallest bet of the season, because we do have to remember it is the largest "public" game of the year. Most likely, I will go opposite of where all the majority is leaning...with the best bet being an under?
