  • NCAA College Football Upset of the week 5

The objective is to pick the dog that you think has the best chance to win straight up. Last week the dogs here at a good week.

Big 10 conf play starts this week and I am sure we are going to see some upsets.

Post them if you got them, the smoking lamp is lit.

Iowa State +7.5 over texas tech

Think Home cooking helps ISU out here in a matchup that the public clearly loves TT in. ISU's QB situation is up in the air at the moment but pretty much equal talent. If ISU can keepit close, and run the ball this one will come down to the final quarter.

Even though my college record leaves something to be desired, I'll keep swinging away:

      PENN STATE +7 OVER IOWA

Iowa and Ohio State are obviously the teams at the top of the Big Ten, but after getting off to a couple of dull starts in it's last two games against weaker foes, I think Joe Pa has his team cranked and ready to avenge last year's loss by 11 points to the Hawkeyes, which can mainly be attributed to poor play on special teams......With new ST coaches and a new outlook, I look for the Nittany Lions to give Iowa all they can handle -Take the 7 and run.

      FLORIDA +7 1/2 VS. ALABAMA

Florida QB Brantley seems to be getting over his early season jitters as he has improved game-by-game......Although the game will be played at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa and the Tide should fare better than they did in squeaking by a fired-up Arkansas team, I just feel that the Gators, with a healthy Jeff Demps (he will play), will give the Tide all they can handle this weekend.......This spread opened up around 9 points and is now down to 7 1/2 -- so hopefully the "sharp" money rides with the Gators.

      STANFORD +7 VS. OREGON

Won't go to deep on this write-up because Admin Jeff pretty much summed it up earlier in the week with his in-depth analysis......but these two teams are very close talentwise, and if I'm getting a touchdown with a team that has a better defense -- then why not.

Good Luck this weekend.........I hope I can turn myself around from a lousy start in the colleges (1-3), but if you follow me on these -- just remember to pay the rent first !!!
      ;)

Florida International +17.5 -- This is very good underrated team. Played A&M tight, even led by 2 scores in the 4th quarter before giving it all back. Had many many many chances last week against Maryland in the 4th quarter and couldnt punch it in on multiple trips inside the 15 yard line in the 2nd half. And this Pitt offense is ugly to watch. Too many points IMO.

Boone, I agree with you on Stanford. I do think they will win this game so a money line bet at +230 isn't a bad bet in my mind either...Good Luck!!

NC State +3.5 to upset Virginia Tech.
                Clemson +3.5 to upset Miami.
Arizona State +3.5 to upset Oregon State.

Not big dogs and the first two are at home.

Nice call on the Utah State game guys. I wish I had more time to participate in this particular thread each week. It's really a fantastic idea and a great way to come up with some solid plays.

I agree with Woodee and Iowa State. Now, I haven't picked the game apart, and haven't played it myself, yet. However, one of the things I do each week is is run the games through a formula I use that deals with average opponent power ratings. It's designed to spot situations where year to date stats aren't necessarily reflective of a teams strength or weakness......ie a team plays all cream puffs and is undefeated and a team is 0-3 but has played all power houses.

I don't put much faith in this approach until the 2nf half of the college season. But it does show Iowa State winning straight up......

Just as a caveat.....to show that I don't rely on those numbers this early, it also shows Oregon winning by 16.........but I played Stanford this week........let's see how that turns out
