College Football Week 0 Discussion-Aug.29-Sept.2

Thougt I 'd start a thread to discuss college football since we've been doing it anyway.

Post plays and insights here.

Just more of a place to bounce thoughts off each other.

I have played Ole Miss -2 and Okie State -12 so far.

I am looking at a total that the number seems soft on too...Will research that more and post later.

SMU +5 over Tx. Tech Friday 8/30

Tech's starting QB from last year is out with back issues, so
one of the Freshman QBs will start in his place.
This will be Kingsbury's first game as head coach and June
Jones is known to throw out a few trick plays.

Nice call. This is the total I was looking at too. at 58-60 right now.

I still think they will shoot it out whoever plays QB.

Thoughts?

I kind of like the SMU side better now you mentioned it!

woodee, that's a good point. I would say under, only because
you have a strong returning secondary for SMU.

I'll offer one more. I like UAB +5 @ Troy. Troy has 2 returning
Senior QBs who have been productive in split time. However, they
will play with only 2 other starters on the O from last year's team.
Troy's defense was last in the conference and only a few starters return.

UAB wasn't much in the win dept., but they return their top QB, RB and WR.

I actually just played UAB too before I checked in here today.

Troy is not experienced at all (4 guys back) on D, and UAB's offense is back from last year minus a top WR who got suspended last week.

Line was at +3.5 but jumped to +4 again before I played it...I thought it was going the other direction myself.

I think a good angle early on is finding bad teams from last year that have a good core coming back against a depleted team losing a lot of starters.

UAB is my 3rd play of the college year so far.

So far I have---
Ole Miss -2
Okie State -12
UAB +4

That Ole Miss play is still a little scary to me, but I am going to roll with my initial gut on what I saw out of the shoot.


On another note...Virginia got hit hard this morning and down to a pick VS. BYU---I have been eyeing that one since lines were released and that good number is now gone. I was thinking it would go the other way myself. SHoudl have hit it when I had a chance as it was one I had circled early.
I think Right Angle must have released it or something this morning. They are the new Dr.Bob of moving lines!

Northwestern should beat California very soundly.
Cal has been devastated with lost players, while NW has nearly all returning.

Pittsburgh could surprise Florida State. FSU could take the game lightly, and the upset is on.

Cincinnati should romp over a Purdue team that is in a rebuilding year.

Get out the blankets and ice tea....Wisconsin will be having a picknik with UMass

NC State better pay close attention when hosting Louisiana Tech. Both teams in a rebuilding year.

Florida International and Maryland will be a lot closer than the books offer.

Florida could struggle as bit with a Toledo team that will come to play.

Ohio State is a bit more than a 5 TD favorite. Everybody's back at Buffalo and I think it will be a bit closer than predicted.

I like a lot of the big dogs to cover in week #1. That could include Temple and Central Michigan.

Penn St and Syracuse in a low scoring defensive battle.

BYU and Virginia in a close low scoring game

Alabama will be too much for Virginia Tech to handle, although Va Tech could keep it close in the first half until Ala wakes up in the second half for a romp.

Both Auburn and Wash St could struggle in a low scoring affair.

Texas is attending the same picknic as Wisconsin and should roll very easily over New Mex St.

CGOW contest starts Thursday 8/29/13. Thread will be started tomorrow with the lines and for picks to be posted. There has been a thread going on for a couple of weeks now regarding the rules.

My top plays of the week are:
Utah State +2.5
N. Illinois +3
W. Kentucky +4.5
I have all 3 of these teams winning outright, so I see no reason to need the points.

Colorado State -3

A tier below those 4 for me are BYU - Toledo - UL-Lafayette - Northwestern

That Utah-Utah state is a tricky one. I lean Utah but Utah state seems to have thier number and play a good brand of football compared to the utes who gave adapted the PAC 10 philosophy too much I think.

Adding--

Tulsa +3.5 over Bowling Green...Almost made this my GOW week pick but missed the one hour deadline as I couldn;t pull the trigger. So saying that, this is a sure fire winner! Just like Tulsa experiece on offense as I watched them play twice last year against Iowa State. They are physical but have lots of speed too.

Saw this vandy game coming a mile away and RR warned me. Usually when everyone is all over a Thursday side like ole miss it's s huge red flag.

I dont know what I saw with Tulsa either. Shows you can read all the previews you want but they still play the game. Starters returning may be an overrated stat.
