    Goings and Comings

This will be weekly column of thoughts and opinions from the previous week, along with what it ahead. Let’s roll on….....

Michigan State was looking at a relatively easy victory and cover, then “Cool Hand” Luke McCown struck. Scoring a touchdown with just 67 seconds to play, the Bulldogs recovered the on-side kick and then marched down field to score with 20 seconds to go to steal the victory and get the unexpected ATS victory.

Going into the game the thought was this will be a good test to find out if Texas is physical enough to play against the tougher teams on their schedule. Answer - FAILED! The physically talented Longhorns were softer then a case of Charmin. Giving up 265 yards rushing while gaining only 62 yards themselves, Coach Brown Longhorns look pretty, but certainly not tough.

Nebraska was out to extract revenge on Penn State for last year’s beating and did so everywhere except the scoreboard. Pounding the Nittany Lions on the ground with 337 yards rushing on 72 attempts, the ‘Huskers inability to close the deal, was evidenced by only 1 TD and 4 FG’s which prevented numerous alumni from cashing winning tickets.

    Quick Hits…………
Houston 5 turnovers and 18 penalties, Win and Push……C.Michigan gives up 614 yards to E.Kentucky….. Clemson won by 23 and covered but gave up 194 yards rushing and 5.1PA…. Mountain West Conference was 5-1 SU and 4-1 ATS in non-conference games….Kansas averaged 18.4 yards per pass in RD win at Wyoming…. Arizona’s ride in the abyss continued, as Oregon quacked along the yards 494-188…..Rice & Duke combined for 579 yards rushing……Cincinnati and West Virginia totaled 10 turnovers in an off and on rain, but the Bearcats got road win and dog cover.

    Game of the Weak
Baylor vs SMU is not considered in Texas as a big of a game as let’s say Texas and Texas A&M. In fact a number of high school games probably carry more weight in the Lone Star State. This game lived up to all the advanced billing. Baylor 10 SMU 7.
First Downs 11-10 Baylor. These teams combined for an awful 2.8 yards per play. UGH!
The Bears at least won, and got the Home Dog cover. Go Bears!

    Learning Curve
In College Football this season Road Favorites under 7-points are 13-2 ATS. As of this writing this situation is not applicable. Impact Sports will continue to follow this for you.

    NFL Notes
Eagles appear to be in real trouble. Only 1 team has lost their first two games at home and made the playoffs. Injuries are piling up on the defensive side, so help is unlikely to appear. DO NOT Play on the Eagles until situation stabilizes one way or the other.

How bad are the underachieving Browns up front? Called out earlier in the week by Jamal Lewis, the four high draft choices were pummeled (or whatever other descriptive adjective you would see fit) and offered no resistance to the Ravens. Just like the cowardly lion, this group could use some courage. In our preseason email we picked Cleveland to be Under 8.5 victories, and they are complying.

It is not our duty to defend any Gramatica, but the media was all over the supposed low kicks by MARTEENN. Was anyone paying attention to the horrible blocking by the line? Dreadful means they at least tried and we didn’t even see that.

One of our favorite stats and indicators in the NFL is rushing attempts. In the NFL if you rush the ball 25 times you will be in position to win. Week TWO results:
SU record 14-2 ATS record 14-2 To Date SU 27-3 ATS 27-3
How can you tell if a team is going to rush 25 or more times? Of course a variety of factors need to be assessed, but we recommend the following:
*Coach’s patience and commitment to running game
    *History of running the ball
    *Strength of offense line
    *Weakness of defensive line
*Lead running back who can close game

    LINE MOVEMENT
One feature that Impact Sports likes to follow is line movement early in the week. This is considered when the “sharps” look to take advantage of weak lines and help move them accordingly. Once posted, we review them later in the day on Tuesday and see what direction these guys are thinking. Last year, CFB was only 129-130 in early line movement, but the NFL was a profitable 36-25 ATS.

    Last Week CFB 1-3
    Season to Date 8-6

    Last Week NFL 0-4
    Season to Date 2-6
    This Week’s Line Movement
    Purdue Open -21.5 Tuesday -25
    Alabama Open -12 Tuesday -14
    TCU Open -14 Tuesday -12
    Minnesota Open -31.5 Tuesday -34

    Steelers Open -6 Tuesday -4.5
    Broncos Open -3.5 Tuesday -5
    SF/Cleve Open Total 43 Tuesday Total 44.5

    Surprising Spreads
Louisville -37.5 over UTEP The Miners are horrible, but 37.5? Coach Nord watch continues………………..

Texas -30.5 over Rice C. Brown is 9-2 ATS after SU loss at Texas. Longhorns will cause rapid blinking with these Owls.

Patriots -6.5 over Jets Pats lousy HF, Jets great RD.

Packers -7.5 over Cardinals Every year they talk about the September heat in Arizona for visiting teams. Then why are the Bidwell’s 12-26 ATS in Sept. HG’s?
