Well here it is... My first post of the year in the NBA. I am not betting these picks, nor do I recomend them yet. I have been working on the ratings and this thread will serve to test and document their progress.

My ratings in the NHL have been very good this season, up quite a bit! My ratings in the NFL went pretty well for the first half of the season, and have not been too hot in the last couple of weeks of the season, and now in the post-season.... My guess there: The ring is a prize that all the teams want bad... So they all fight extra hard to get it. When this happens the stats loose predictive ability. This is why my ratings do really well in the mid season of MLB and NHL; a time when the teams are overloaded with games and have not yet turned up the juice for the season end rankings and post-season positions.

Now for the first time I will be working on ratings for the NBA and posting their progress here.

Thanks to all of you that have been helping to flesh out my power rating picks threads in the other sports.

I am going to get a little ballzy on today's post.... There are a lot of games on today's ticket, and I'm not certain if my NBA power ratings are ready for a day like today. I guess we have to wait and see.

The ratings today took all but one away teams. This scares me a little bit. The ratings also matched the consensus reports for all but 3 picks. This also scares me....

But then again,,, The dogs are bound to have thier day, and even the reports can get it right from time to time! And after yesterday I have a little buffer to work with!

What a day.... Going into the last game of the night all that was needed for a nice little profit was for Portland to not screw things up! But.... They did, and lost in overtime. It was a pretty close game,,,, untill they only put up 4 points in overtime!

Today's ratings are freakin' me out again. The power grid has again selected mostly away dogs ATS.... So I will not be playing today's games. I have a funny feeling that a fade on the rating's picks today would be a good bet.

Sorry to those of you that follow my rating picks. I had taken a few days off from the handicapping routine to get some much needed R&R!

So.... While I was away I have been giving my ratings a lot of thought. I have noticed in almost all sports, that as the season progresses, the rating picks tend to lean more and more toward the dogs. This is typically a valid trend, however, there is a problem here. I have noticed that over several seasons in several sports that in the beginning of the season I loos more picks on the favs than the dogs, and as the season comes to end the opposite is true. I end the season loosing mostly on the dogs that are picked.

My question to any of you out there that also use ratings.... What have you done to account for this? Do you have the same experience with your ratings?

I have several things that I have done to adjust for this trend, however, I not decided on one over another. I just want to get a little feedback from some of you that know what I am talking about!

From the 30th through today I took a couple of days off, then lost a 1.75 units yesterday in the NHL.

Broke even on the Super Bowl, too much fun. I was betting on all sorts of stuff from beginning to end of game. Needless to say, I have a few beers and didn;t post anything!

I kind of bounce back and forth from the NBA to the NHL. I find that I do much better on days with fewer games to look at. So which ever sport has the fewer number of games playing each day is usually where I make my picks for the day.
