San Antonio Spurs @ Houston Rockets
We're forecasting the San Antonio Spurs to get their fifth straight win tonight when they take on the Houston Rockets.
Overall this season the Spurs are 34-18 SU to be in second place in the very strong Midwest division. They are riding their stellar defense once again and are allowing a league-low 83.7 points per game. San Antonio are off to a 3-0 SU and ATS mark on this road trip having beaten each of the Jazz, Sonics and Kings by at least six points. Last time out they held the league's highest scoring team to just 37% from the field.
"It may be our worst game offensively all season," Sacramento Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "You give the Spurs credit, they were good defensively. We tried to do too much on our own."
San Antonio had the weekend off to recover from their revenge win at Sacramento and are 6-1 ATS this season on 2 days rest. And they feast on teams trying to beat them at their own game, going 12-4 ATS in the second half of the last three seasons against teams that allow less than 91 ppg and 11-4 ATS against teams that score less than 91 ppg. Bad news for Rockets fans is that they qualify in both categories tonight.
Houston has won three straight but those wins have been against much lesser opposition than the Spurs recent victims. The Rockets posted home wins over the Bucks (a 7-18 road team) and the Bulls (6-21 on the road) before beating the Hawks on the road (who are just 10-16 in front of their long-suffering fans). Meantime the Spurs last three opponents were a combined 55-25 (.688) at home so there is little question they are playing the better ball right now.
Prior to their recent revival Houston had lost four straight including the last two times they hosted quality opposition at the Toyota Center...they lost 88-77 to the Nets and 99-94 to the Kings back in late January.
San Antonio own Houston having won 20 of their last 22 contests and covering four straight in this series.
The Spurs may win ugly but all that matters to bettors is cashing a ticket and tonight we expect the reigning world champs to post another road win.
