  • Friday NBA...Spurs at Cavs

    7.30pm ET
San Antonio Spurs @ Cleveland Cavaliers

We'll go with the reigning World Champion San Antonio Spurs to notch another road win tonight when they visit LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

While the Cavs are a much-improved outfit this season the fact remains that the Spurs have dominated them in recent times. Cleveland have dropped six of the last seven in this series and their losing margin in those games has been 26, 13, 14, 18, 17 and 20 points.

San Antonio are 36-18 overall this season including 18-11 on the highway. They have won six straight road games against Toronto, Houston, Sacramento, Seattle, Utah and New York and covered all but one of those. Just backing San Antonio 'blind' in every road game the last three seasons would have given you a 60% ATS record.

The Spurs own the league's best defense allowing just 83.7 ppg and we expect them to suffocate the Cavs tonight and create the half-court battle they relish. And they just love to beat up on bad teams....San Antonio are a dominant 16-6 ATS this season against teams with a losing record.

Cleveland are 20-24 SU this season and have performed OK at home overall going 14-13. But their recent efforts at Gund Arena have been very disappointing as they have lost four of their last five both SU and ATS. Their average losing margin in those contests is a whopping 14.7 ppg with all but one by 16 points or more. Cleveland are a miserable 1-7 ATS against the Midwest.

The Cavaliers have allowed seven of their last nine opponents to score at least 100 points and it's clear that LeBron James still has a lot to learn.

"All you can do is hope they miss," said the rookie phenom after the Mavs piled on 114 points Wednesday. "And they didn't."

LeBron and his teammates will tonight learn that defense involves more than wishful thinking as the Spurs win and cover once again.
