Here's what our clients received for Monday Night Football this week:

7 STAR SELECTION (5% of Bankroll)

KANSAS CITY -3.5 over St. Louis

Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil will compete against his former team, as Kansas City hosts St. Louis in a preseason Monday night matchup. It’s a family affair when these teams meet up, as Vermeil coached the Rams from 1997 to 1999 and led the franchise to a win in Super Bowl XXXV. Current Rams coach Mike Martz served as offensive coordinator under Vermeil. Both teams opened the preseason with defeats, as Kansas City dropped a 34-24 decision to the Giants on Aug. 13 and the Rams fell, 13-10 in overtime, to Chicago on Aug. 12.

The Chiefs displayed their usual aerial heroics against the Giants, as three quarterbacks combined to pass for 361 yards. Starter Trent Green was strong, before being succeeded by Todd Collins and Casey Clausen. Running back Priest Holmes' workload should be heavier this week, after the Pro Bowler rushed just twice for five yards versus New York. The Rams were without star running back Marshall Faulk in their preseason opener. The All-Pro running back should see his first action against the Chiefs but it is likely to be only for a series or 3. Quarterback Marc Bulger will play a quarter-plus before yielding to Chris Chandler and sixth-round draft pick Jeff Smoker.

The Chiefs' beleaguered run defense will look for a better outing against the Rams, after the Giants piled up 185 yards on them last time out, and we believe they will get it. The defense is coming along for defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, who has been after his players to aggressively attack the line of scrimmage and plug gaps along the way. The style is in stark contrast to former defensive coordinator Greg Robinson's system which asked players to read and react. Most teams play pretty vanilla defenses during the preseason, but some will resort to blitzing, and that usually gives a team an advantage. Teams who blitz a lot during preseason often do well because their opponents aren’t ready for it with backup linemen. They should have success against the Rams who come limping in with a thin offensive line thin. It's still without Orlando Pace and some injuries have been suffered by Jeremy Phillips, Kyle Turley, and center, Dave Wohlabaugh, who was released week.

During exhibition season it’s common for a team with an excellent rushing attack to practice their passing game. Likewise, last year’s excellent passing teams are likely to be doing a lot of rushing the ball. This is what the Rams are doing and we expect to see more of it here; however, with their injury-riddled o-line and the Chiefs concentrating on a much better defensive performance, we don’t see St. Louis being able to keep up with KC. Of course, the Rams will pass the ball as well, but the Chiefs have been gameplanning for some deep passes by St. Louis.

Of course, it’s only natural that Vermeil would want to do well against his former team, and definitely has the edge here over his colleague on the other side of field. Since going to Kansas City, Vermeil and his new team have beaten his old team 3 straight times including preseason and regular season, which the Rams have not had any recent success in K.C. The have not done well on grass fields in general, going just 5-15 ATS over their last 19. They are also just 11-20 ATS as an underdog and 1-5 ATS in Week 2. Meanwhile, Vermeil is 10-2 ATS at home vs. NFC foes, while the Chiefs are a healthy 7-3 ATS in preseason play, even with their SU & ATS loss recently against the Giants. Monday home teams off a SU loss have done well and we look for Kansas City to play a complete game on offense and defense to secure the SU & ATS victory.

ACTUAL FINAL SCORE: KANSAS CITY 24 ST. LOUIS 7
