  • QB Rotations - Starter info

NY JETS - The Post reports - Edwards said the starters will play Thursday night in Philadelphia, but he added, "How long they play? Don't blink." Translation: Look for the starters to play one series.

PHILADELPHIA - The Ledger reports - McNabb didn't practice yesterday as head coach Andy Reid worked his other three quarterbacks - Koy Detmer, Mike McMahon and Andy Hall - in preparation for tomorrow night's preseason finale against the Jets.
The starters are not expected to play in that game, so the next time McNabb and Owens get together outside of practice will be the season opener, Monday night Sept. 12, in Owens' hometown of Atlanta.

ATLANTA - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports - The starters, who played a half against the Jaguars, are not expected to play more than a series Thursday in the exhibition finale at Miami.

MIAMI - The Post reports - Dolphins coach Nick Saban said both (quarterbacks) will play the same amount against Atlanta, even though the first team won't see much action.

HOUSTON - The Chronicle reports - The starters won't play more than 10 plays and Davis won't play at all in the last preseason game at Tampa Bay on Thursday

TAMPA BAY - The Tribune reports - You're only going to get a glimpse of the starters tonight

CLEVELAND - The Journal reports - "Our team still needs work," coach Romeo Crennel said. "Our starters need some work." Which means the starters will surely go into the second quarter tonight. Or at least it seems that they will. "I'm going to play that by ear," Crennel said.
The Plain Dealer reports - QB Charlie Frye will play second after Trent Dilfer. Doug Johnson will play third.

CHICAGO - The Sun Times reports - The starters are expected to play only a series, or maybe two.

NY GIANTS - Newsday reports - Coughlin did not say what his quarterback rotation for Thursday will be, but every indication is that Tim Hasselbeck will go with the starters and perhaps beyond, given that most of the first-unit offense is not scheduled to play beyond a few series. Jesse Palmer will sub in when Hasselbeck leaves.

NEW ENGLAND - The Globe reports - With nothing at stake and the regular-season opener around the corner (Sept. 8 against Oakland), starters, key reserves, and many veterans stand to play little, if at all. Belichick sat all his starters -- save for kicker Adam Vinatieri, punter Josh Miller, and long snapper Lonie Paxton -- in last year's exhibition finale. The coach hasn't divulged his intentions for tonight, but the risk of playing top players far outweighs the reward.

PITTSBURGH - The Gazette reports - The Steelers' first team will play one quarter against the Carolina Panthers and call it a night as Cowher reverts to form and uses the final exhibition game not as a tuneup but as something to be feared.

CAROLINA - The Gazette reports - In the final preseason game, (starters) will play only about a series or two

JACKSONVILLE - The Times-Union reports - Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio said the regulars will play only "sparingly'' and some of them won't play at all. Running back Fred Taylor already has been scratched from the game, and Del Rio indicated that several other starters also might be held out.

DALLAS - The Morning News reports - Parcells said Drew Bledsoe would be followed by Tony Romo and Drew Henson in Thursday?s game against Jacksonville. Parcells declared Henson ?not ready? during his news conference Tuesday.

WASHINGTON - The Sun reports - Washington's starters likely will see limited action in the final preseason game against the Ravens on Thursday night.

BALTIMORE - The Sun reports - After the starters are pulled in the first quarter, the Ravens will turn their attention to the players who will finalize their 53-man roster.

GREEN BAY - The Packer News reports - QB rotation: Earlier in the week, quarterback Brett Favre said he wanted to play into the second half of tonight's game. With Favre's mind on his family in Mississippi as they try to recover from Hurricane Katrina, Rossley said he doesn't know how much Favre will play, if at all. "It's still up in the air." Rossley said. If Favre starts, he will be followed by rookie Aaron Rodgers, Craig Nall and possibly J.T. O'Sullivan.

TENNESSEE - The Tennessean reports - Coach Jeff Fisher plans to play the majority of his first teamers into the third quarter. QB Steve McNair and WR Drew Bennett probably will be two exceptions and could leave the game earlier.

OAKLAND - The Times reports - Raiders coach Norv Turner, much like his counterpart (the Saints' Jim Haslett), likely won't play his best players more than a 12-15 downs or one sustained drive.

SAN FRANCISCO - The Times reports - The starters on both sides of the ball, including quarterback Tim Rattay, will play only about a dozen snaps, Nolan said.

SAN DIEGO - (08/31 4:30am) The starters (except for LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates) will be in for about 15-20 plays tomorrow, Schottenheimer said
