  • NFL Early looks - Beat Bettorsworld and win $100

Ok......every week we post our early looks in a thread and ask for your opinions on the games. This week there's added incentive.

The first poster who picks more winners than Bettorsworld wins 10 free $10 wagers on the following weeks College football card.

You must pick every NFL game using the lines we have used.

This is for "early looks" so the contest part of this thread will close on Wednesday at midnight eastern time.

Jets at Bills - Battle of two teams which we have pegged to be "pesky" all year long. Both of these teams figure to be in just about every game they play this year no matter who they play. So with that in mind, only one way to look here and that's taking the points with the Jets. Jets have lost 3 in a row in Buffalo straight up and against the spread. Time for a change. Free Pick - Jets +6

Bengals at Steelers - Great match up. We know that it's a cardinal sin to play an NFL game simply based on how teams looked the week before, but hey, it's only week 3 and we only have two games to go by! The Bengals have looked good. They look like they have picked up right where they left off last year. Sure, they haven't played anyone yet. But this week they get the Super Bowl champs and we'll really get to see where the Bengals stand. Last years playoff match up saw Carson Palmer go down early and with it the Bengals season. A win here will move the Bengals from pretender to contender status. Also note that the Bengals are a nice 16-8 against the number on the road the last few years. Getting one point in this one we're just being asked to pick the winner. Free Pick - Bengals +1

Jaguars at Colts - Why is it that both marquis match ups this week involve teams that played on Monday Night? Such is the case here as the Jags come off a Monday Night win having shut down the Steelers. Now they have to see if they can shut down Peyton Manning and the Colts high powered offense. We'll have to dig into this one a little more but for an early look.......the Jags have lost 6 of the last 8 against the Colts but have managed to cover 6 of those games. Both squads look solid in the early going so we're leaning towards the Jags and the TD here. Just be leary of the letdown off the big Monday Night win. Free Pick - Jaguars +7

Titans at Dolphins - Wait a sec. The 0-2 Dolphins in off a home loss to the Bills, are an 11 point favorite???? Did the Dolphins get Marino to come out of retirement? Sure the Titans got spanked 40-7 by the Bolts last week. But this is the NFL. No matter how bad a teams looks one week, these guys are still the best football players in the world. The talent gap between good teams and bad in the NFL is razor thin. When an NFL team gets pasted like the Titans did last week, look for a MUCH better effort the following week. If Tennessee was playing the Steelers or the Bengals this week we'd consider taking 11 points. But they are playing the Dolphins so there is nothing to consider. Free Pick - Titans +11

Redskins at Texans - Can't lay points on the road with an 0-2 team. Sure, it's the Texans but quite frankly the Redskins haven't looked any better than the Texans thus far. Gibbs and the Skins may notch their first win this week, but if they do, it will only be by a field goal. Free Pick - Texans +4.5

Bears at Vikings - Not getting off this Bears bandwagon until they miss a step. They have looked like a team on a mission so far and we see that continuing. This team is headed to the Super Bowl this year. When these two played last year, only one game counted. That one was played early in the year at Chicago and the Bears won 28-3. They played again in January in a game that meant nothing to the Bears and Minny won 34-10. Well, this one counts and the Bears are the better team. Bears are 10-5 against the spread at Minny........make that 11-5. Free Pick - Bears -3 -120

Panthers At Bucs - Yuk. But somebody has to win. Or cover. We'll take the Bucs here for no good reason other than they are playing at home getting a field goal. Free Pick - Bucs +3

Packers at Lions - The lesser of two evils here would have to be the home team Lions as they are simply a better team than the hapless Packers. But the number is too high in this one as there are a couple of 7's on the board. The Packers are terrible but the Lions have shown no offense thus far so the 7 points looms large. Free Pick - Packers +7

Ravens at Browns- Well the good news for the Ravens is that they have the number one ranked defense in the NFL. The bad news is that they have beaten the likes of the Raiders and the Bucs. But there's nothing we can do about who they have played. That's what we have to work with. Two games. It looks at though the Ravens may have some offense this year to compliment that defense. It may only take a TD and a field goal to cover this spot. We'll lay it and take the old Browns over the new browns. Free Pick - Ravens -6.5 over Browns

Rams at Cardinals - Cards will be a fun team to watch all year and will always be worth a look as an underdog with an offense that has the potential to put alot of points on the board. But we don't trust them in the role of favorite at this point. Rams have beat the Cards straight up 6 times out of the last 8 tries and we're getting a generous +4.5 in this one. Free Pick - Rams +4.5

Giants at Seahawks - The Giants can beat anyone in the NFL this year. Unfortunately they can also lose to anyone in the NFL this year. The defense is going to have to step up if they are going to make any noise this year. No better time than the present, against the Super Bowl losers. As we mentioned above, the Giants can play with anyone and figure to be in every game this year as the 4th quarter rolls around with an opportunity to win. With that in mind we have to take the +4. Free Pick - Giants +4

Eagles at 49ers - We've already stated that we think the Eagles will be contenders this year. They blew last weeks game against the G-Men, but we're not backing off our opinion. So with that in mind, if the Eagles are going to contend, they have to be able to go into a place like San Francisco and win comfortably. Thus, we have only one way to look here. Free Pick - Eagles -6

Broncos at Patriots - This one looked better on paper before the season started. We've predicted that the Pats will be down a notch this year and our opinion hasn't changed. The Broncos are 8-3 against the number vs the Pats and have won the last 4 times they met in New England, covering 3 of those contests. It was also these Broncos who knocked the Pats out of the playoffs last year. But the Pats won't go down without a fight and this years edition of the Broncos hasn't looked very good so far. They have struggles against two poor teams and while we feel the Pats are on the decline, they are still among the top 10 teams in the NFL. The decline will be gradual. The Pats look like the side here. Free Pick - Patriots -6.5

Falcons at Saints - We like this Saints team. They are headed in the right direction without question. This is going to be a big time emotional game for the Saints and their fans as this is the first game back at the Superdome after Katrina. Hard to judge the Falcons off two wins over the Panthers and Bucs. Just can't go against the Saints on this particular night. Free Pick - Saints +3

    Dolphins -11

    Redskins -4.5

    Panthers -3

    Packers +7

    Ravens -6.5

    Cardinals - 4.5

    Seahawks -4

    49ers +6

    Patriots -6.5

I agree w/all the picks except New Orleans, I think Atlanta defense will shut them down, and Atlanta will control most of the ballgame w/their offense. This is one of those teams where Vick will make alot of highlights.

Bills -6 They might actually have a team this year.
Steelers -1 Big Ben gets them moving again this week. Defense is still strong.
Colts -7 Jacksonville goes on the road after a hard fought Monday night game. How can you go against the Colts at this point?
Titans +11 Gotta take the points.
Redskins -4.5 How can you go with the Texans at this point?
Bears -3 Vikings have been suprising this year, but the Bears have been downright impressive.
Carolina -3 Carolina vs. TB in Chokebowl I. Carolina is supposed to be a Superbowl contender.
Lions -7 Packers are horrible, the Lions actually hung close to Seattle in Week 1.
Ravens -6.5 Staying on the bandwagon.
Rams +4.5 Going with the road dog.
Giants +4 These points are a gift. The Giants aren't great, but they don't quit.
Eagles -6 Shouldn't have any trouble here.
Patriots -6.5 What's wrong with the Broncos this year?
Falcons -3 The only chance the Saints have is if the government steps in and helps, and we all know how well that works out.

Jets +6 - I like Pennington over Losman
Steelers -1 - Bengals banged up and Pittsburgh doesn't lose 2 in a row, especially at home and especially after how they looked Monday night. Cowher will have them fired up.
Colts -7 - Jacksonville spent after Monday night and short week. I don't think they can score enough to stay within 7 even if they hold Indy to 21!
Tennessee +11 - I agree....how can Miami be favored by 11 against anyone.
Washington -4.5 - Washington sucks but finally gets off the schneid. Houston is losing by double digits.
Minnesota +3 - I'm not getting off the Viking bandwagon!
Carolina -3 - Let's see....T.B. has 3 pts in two games...hmmm.....I'll take the Panthers who actually had a pulse last week. Hopefully they get Morgan and Smith back for this game.
Green Bay +7 - What an absolutely ridiculous line! G.B. wins outright.
            Cleveland +6.5 - I can't stand either of the Lewis's so I just can't go with Baltimore.
Rams +4.5 - Let's see......The Rams beat Denver and lost to the 49er's by a TD....the Cards beat the 49er's by a TD...ummm....I'll go with the Rams anyway. That's a lot of pts.
New York Giants +4 - How come they have to go to Seattle again? Seems like this one should be in N.Y. Oh well, last years game went to OT with Seattle winning 24-21. I really like the Giants. Even though I can't stand Archie and Peyton, and even though they dissed my Chargers, I kinda like this Eli guy.
Philadelphia -6 - The 49er's finally play somebody really good.....and pissed.
New England -6.5 - Payback time! The Broncos suck the big one so far (should be 0-2 IMO) and the Pats ought to be licking their chops.
New Orleans +3 - I liked Drew Brees with my Chargers and I like him in the Big Easy. Atlanta obviously caught both Carolina and T.B. at the right time. Those wins just aren't looking that impressive to me considering. Brees, the Duece and Reggie all the way in an outright win!

Bills -6 Okay, maybe Losman HAS improved. The Bills D is solid and they are home for their opener after two weeks on the road.

Steelers -1 Home field is enough here. Bengals a bit banged up.

Indy -7 Easier line here. I've seen it at 9! The no-huddle offense will revolutionize football. Such an advantage for the offense. Keep the specialists off the field and keep those big fat boys huffing and puffing. Every team will try to use it if their QB has an IQ up to it.

Tennessee +11 Collins should get a little something going by now. Titans not quitting yet. Miami not looking capable of a blow-out.

Texans +4.5 Texans break through at home, or at least cover. At least their offense is moving it.

Chicago -3 If Carolina can throttle the Vikings offense, then the Bears should keep them under 10. Grossman and Co. can score 10 and the Bears D will add 7-10.

Bucs +3 Can't figure either of these teams out, so go for the points and the home field.

Lions -7 Seven is a lot. I've seen 6. But the Lions D was very tough and physical vs the Seahawks in Week 1. And their offense moved the ball but just couldn't break through. They will break through vs. the Pack and their D should contain Brett Farve.

Browns +6.5 The Browns have let me down these first two weeks. Thought they would be improved. They should be up for the Ravens emotionally, but can they match them physically?

St. Louis +4.5 Gotta go with the points. And the over if it is reasonable.

Giants +4 Repeat of last year's game - a close one the Giants really won, but for missed silly FGs in OT. The Giants' players outplayed the Hawks except for the kicker. (If I were commissioner, I'd eliminate the FG from football.) Giants will be tired though after the OT drainer in Philly and a long plane ride. Don't bet the ranch.

Eagles -6 Eagles usually win these and they will be smarting from their Giant collapse.

Broncos +6.5 They can't be THAT bad, can they? It'll be close. Broncos D will keep them in it or win it for them.

Saints +3 Only 3? I've seen 6! Still, lots of emotion and lots of offense for the Saints. But they gotta have some D for this one.

det- Lions D tough at home and GB sucks
bal- Frye running for his life in this one
rams- Arizona D is less than impressive, if the rams can figure out Jackson is running for 4+ yards a carry maybe they will give him more
sea- improved seattle defense much better than ? giants defense
phi- they won't let up on SF, blowout
pat- denver really struggling to move the ball, NE playing good defense and running the ball well. when brady and recievers get on the same page, look out.
atl- saints will have plenty of emotion, but that falcons running game is awesome.

Jets at Bills - agreed - Jets +6

Bengals at Steelers - agreed - Bengals +1

Jaguars at Colts - Colts -7 - the Colts always win in the regular season, they simply always win, it's only one score, Jax shot their load vs. Pitt

Titans at Dolphins - Dolphins -11 - the Titans are absolutely horrid, putrid

Redskins at Texans - agreed - Texans +4.5

                    Bears at Vikings - agreed - Bears -3 -120

Panthers At Bucs - Panthers -3 - shaky pick here, but still think Carolina is better than they've shown, Tampa simply isn't

Packers at Lions - agreed - Packers +7

Ravens at Browns- agreed - Ravens -6.5

Rams at Cardinals - agreed - Rams +4.5

Giants at Seahawks - agreed - Giants +4

                    Eagles at 49ers - agreed - Eagles -6

Broncos at Patriots - Broncos +6, Pats usualy win these games, but not by much, will take the points

Falcons at Saints - Falcons -3, hate to take them against a home dog with every emotional edge, but I can't take the Saints seriously, they've only beaten the Browns and Packers

BUFFALO -6.......Bills have chance to make early statement or revert to old habits...Like Elvis said...."It's now or never"....Was last week a fluke?

CINCINNATI +1........Have loved Cincy from the get go....If Carson Palmer stays in one piece, these guys are the team to top in the AFC....Just don't think Big Ben will be the same at any time this year that he was last.......Ever take on an automobile head-on without any protection?.....ask Steve Young how it is..........Concussions suck!

JACKSONVILLE +7......This is a really naive pick on my part, and I won't put a penny on this game because the spreadmakers prefer it like that.....But if the Jags don't suffer a Monday Night hangover, they can put Peyton "Happy Feet" Manning on the same destructive course they did with Big Ben R. on Monday night.....If the Jags don't show up, it will be a lopsided affair that won't be watchable in the 2nd half.....Kinda like the horse that's dropping in class.....Either he wins by 10 legnths, or he breaks down.....let's see.

MIAMI -11.......Unfortunately, the Titans really ARE this bad....Hard to believe that the 2 teams that played for the AFC Championship a short 3 years ago (
Tennessee and Oakland), are the 2 WORST teams in the league this year.....You talk about parody.

WASHINGTON -4 1/2........They looked like shit Sunday night against the Cowboys, but if Joe Gibbs can't revive them in time to bounce the hapless Texans, he has no business still coaching.

MINNESOTA +3........Tough pick here....Grossman playing way over his head, albeit the Bears are one of the strongholds in the NFC this year.....If they win this one on the road against a Minny team that's playing with a lot of "moxie", I'll tip the proverbial hat to them....The "razzle-dazzle" they pulled off against the Panthers in a game they should have lost, spoke volumes.........The home crowd could just play a BIG role in this one.

TAMPA BAY +3.....Do or die time for Jon Gruden's boys.....
The QB sucks, but the hobbled Panthers aren't world beaters either.....This one being a coin-flip....Let's take the home team and the small spot.

GREEN BAY +7.......Don't see a whole lot separating these two piles of shit.......If I get a washed-up Farve and all of his game experience +7 points in this storied rivalry, I'll take 'em and run......Good money-line play here.

CLEVELAND +6 1/2........O.K, O.K........So I put a couple bucks on the Ravens to win the AFC, and they made the Raiders look like a "Pop Warner" team but that's because they ARE at this point.....Cleveland has always put it's best efforts forward against division teams at home, and there's no reason to believe that today will be any different....This looks to be a hard hitting goofy affair like this rivalry always is....and could be decided by a late field goal.

ARIZONA -4 1/2.......This might be a reach simply because it's hard to see the Cards favored over anyone, but the Rams looked like shit last week against the lowly 49er's, and playing another on the road isn't exactly what the doctor ordered.....They've got quite a few question marks, while the Arizona club never gave up last week against what is probably the best team in the NFC.....and certainly in the most hostile stadium they'll play in this season.....Look for a big shot from the home boys.

SEATTLE -4.....Simply put, the Seahawks play to the level of the competition......They will show their shit this weekend.....Enough said.

SAN FRANCISCO +6.....Don't laugh at this pick.......The manner in which the Eagles choked on themselves last week is sometimes a tough thing to put behind 'em.....Everybody's second-guessing each other and sometimes it boils over to the point where people start finger pointing.......They are probably many, many points better than the 49er's, but one mistake can cost you the spread....Let's take a chance.

DENVER +6 1/2.......Replay of last year's playoff game where Denver was 5 point favorite and covered.....Just don't think these two teams have changed much since then.

ATLANTA -3........Another trap....Simply put, if the Falcons show up, this game is a whitewash..........34-10 or so......If they get caught up in the "Pity the City" hooplah......anything can happen......Won't be betting on this one.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS.
                      ;)
