Well you would think they would make it past the next 2 with Miami on the road and Washington at home, although I wouldn't necessarily call the Redskins a gimme. Then they would be 8-0. The next game though is at Indianapolis. This would be the obvious spot to potentially lose their first. If they make it past the Colts though they would enter the bye week 9-0 and come back to face Buffalo on the road and then Philly at home. If Philly gets their act together by then that could potentially be a tough one. If, however, they make it past that point undefeated they would be 11-0 and probably have the division sewn up (Buffalo is currently in 2nd place at 1-4, followed by the Jets at 1-5 and Miami at 0-6!). So with the division wrapped up and at 11-0 they would have to travel to Baltimore to play a Monday Night game followed by Pittsburgh at home on a short week. At this point they would likely still be playing for home field advantage but that's not always the huge motivator you would think it would be. We're also assuming they are still relatively healthy at this point. The Baltimore and Pittsburgh games are major obstacles. If they do make it past those games undefeated then it's pretty smooth sailing the next 2 with games against the Jets and Miami, both at home. If you remember though, last year they lost a Week 13 game at Miami 21-0 and one of those 2 division teams would love to play spoiler. The season finale is at N.Y. Giants who, at that time, could potentially be fighting for one of the final NFC playoff spots. Who knows what kind of motivation (or health issues) New England would have left at that point.
Bottom line is, I feel the same way as jpehl. How much are you willing to wager? Ain't no way they are going undefeated.

It figured that the yearly hype and talk about a team going undefeated would start right after the Patriots predicted drubbing of the overrated Cowboys yesterday............Yeah, the Cowboys who have only held the Rex Grossman-led Bears and the Marc Bulger-led Rams (playing with 3 cracked ribs) to under 20 points this year............I'm not so sure the Partiots couldn't have scored 70 points on Sunday if they wanted to............About the only way the Cowboys could have stopped them yesterday was to:

        1. Have Tom Brady play at least one half of the game blindfolded.

        2. Make the New England wide receivers play with one hand tied behind their back.

        3. Make Bill Bellichick QB the team for at least the last quarter.

        4. Make them start their Number 4 and 5 running backs (since the first 3 RB's would be starters on any other team).

        5. Have the Patriots give them a 21-point head start.

O.K, O.K, maybe I'm exaggerating things a bit like I always do, but I seriously think that this Tom Brady led offense is better than, or at least equal to the Joe Montana-led 49er teams in their heyday of the '80's that we use to refer to as: "Too Many Weapons"...........they could score whenever they wanted to ..........but they still lost games..............Every team will go through a week where nothing goes right and every ball seems to bounce the wrong way etc..............Do I see this happening to the Patriots any time soon?........No.............Do I see them going undefeated this season?...........No................Mainly because of the reasons that Dragon points out in the above posts.

        1. Injuries.........they seem to come in bunches, and EVERY team must suffer through them, they don't have to be major injuries to major players, but the "nagging" injuries are sometimes worse.

        2. Scheduling........Sure they could be 13-0 late in the season and start resting players because the games will become meaningless..........Why risk getting anybody hurt before the playoffs?...........Duh !

        3. Gambling.........There are a bunch of suckers out there salivating at the thought of making a score that may seem obvious to everyone, but rarely, if ever -- transpires..........Vegas is ready to soak it up on plays like this that offer little or no value............Everything to lose and nothing to gain.

Now, if you can find a casino posting these odds (and believe me, there are many), what I would like to know is, what are the odds that they don't go undefeated.........Now that might be worth taking a look at.

        Good Luck to you.
        ;)

hey Boone - ease off on the Cowboys...they'll be fine

and i love the fact that Belicheat was at his classless best ramming in a meaningless TD with 19 seconds left....we'll be remembering that on Feb 3

hmm.... any online books have the 16 - 0 odd's

Guys, first of all I m a cowboy fan, yes the cowboys had a chance but it did not pan out.

Second yes at Indy is deadly which is why I want to place the bet now.

Third yes they could lose at NYG final season game but I can middle it.

No Baltimore and the rest of the teams they play have no chance of beating them if NE plays brady, moss, welker, stallworth.....

Last Jpehl ...I live in arlington texas, so yes I would lay a friendly wager with you depending on what odd's you give me.

            Later.

              Later.

By 'rest of the teams they play' you've included that team known as the Pittsburgh Steelers.

New England lost 4 times last year, to Denver, NY Jets, Indianapolis and Miami but they can't lose to Baltimore or Pittsburgh. They went 14-2 in 2004 and lost to Pittsburgh. They barely beat Pittsburgh in 2005 on a last second FG. They've split with Miami for the last 3 years in a row.
Like Boone says, all it takes is an off day or a day when the ball just bounces the other way. You are crazy dude.

                    Pats undefeated ???

Big Pats fan here so I am speaking with a swollen tongue.

During pre-season I got that thought in my head about Pats going undefeated also - was thinking about making a nice bet to solve a whole file full of problems (bills - debts)- spoke to wife about it - she was consistent in her feelings - that I am nuts. Ok maybe not a thou - how about a $100 if I can find a book that lays some odds -- was looking for something like 80-1 or in that neioghborhood. than I thought of all those reasons why it would not happen - like Billy B not letting that happen to insure a hungry and humble team going into playoffs.

Well now that I see Pats preforming over and above even my expectations I am getting figety about them going UN UN. They have not been tested - before the season started I looked at CIN, San Diego and Dallas as being challanges for them -- but look at them now after those games and no-one has looked like they could have stayed close.
The Pats have some injuries already - have had a suspension - have played without a large part of their defense in Seymour -- but no-one has shown they can stay with them

                    BREAK UP THE PATS

                      Pats un un

No one here seems to want to ask for or assume what the odds should be on Pats going un-un. In order to make bet worthwhile a bet of $100 would probably be right but if the Pats ever did pull it off I would be kind of worried about collecting at those odds in a private bet situation.

Well granted I am no bookie but I am good for my word... I have ask what odds he would want and have not got a response... I think its accurate to say that I would not assume a risk greater than my capabilities... If this is a matter of doubting my honesty, then your opinion is not welcome.
                        Good Luck

you know - this may sound crazy but i truly believe this....

if i want to win the super bowl - which i am assuming is the prime objective of any team in the NFL - i actually DO NOT WANT TO BE UN-UN....last thing i would want is the unnecessary distraction of all the UN-UN talk which is probably going to start in ernest for the Pats after the Colts game (assuming they beat Indy)

seriously - going down in history as the 2nd UN-UN team would be cool but the goal is to win the BIG GAME in Feb...and really, the undefeated thing is only a distraction for the team

Liten up alittle JP -- you Cowboys are a touchy group - I did not mention that you might not honor anything - it was just a remark in general --- Are you going to attack me everytime I post ??

go to my post about "Best Home Selections" and see if you can find something there to find fault with.

Have a nice day - it's beautiful here in New England - will be better if BOSOx can get some timely hitting tonight.

For what it's worth, this from an article posted today on vegasinsider.com:

"According to a ‘yes/no’ prop at the Las Vegas Hilton, the Patriots are minus $7.00 to lose at least once during the regular season and plus $5.00 to go undefeated.

“It’s unbelievable to only get 5-1, but if you make the Patriots any higher people will take it,” Seba said."

The Pats may go undegeated but getting only 5-1 is absurd.

They are also -700 to lose at least one game.
