As I've indicated to you in my prior email ... my record, at the moment should be recorded as 4-2.

For Week 6, the regular thread at Bettorsworld.com was not accessible to me [and possibly to many others, as well] due to a system overload [as far as I can tell].

Unfortunately, so was the alternate site located at Oddswiz.com/forums.

Given these two facts, I:

i) Sent my contest pick to you via email prior to the stated contest deadline to ensure that there would be a record of my actual selection for Week 6, no matter what; and then submitted my pick for Week 6 as soon as the systems allowed me to (a) at the Bettorsworld.com web site and (b) at the Oddswiz.com/forums ...

which is all that I could possibly have done given these specific circumstances.

According to the records I have, my W-L record in the GOTW Contest should be listed as 4-2, not 3-3.

Week 1 - Pittsburgh -6.5, Winner
Week 2 - Cincinnati -1.5, Loser
Week 3 - Green Bay +3.5, Loser
Week 4 - Tampa Bay -1.5, Winner
Week 5 - Arizona -1.5, Winner

I've got a solution. Make your picks by Saturday night. This is fucking ridiculous. You guys know there's been problems, you've been warned about it several times and yet you still wait and tempt fate. The problem with this is it opens it up to everyone who forgot to make their picks to just claim they couldn't get in. And it makes it a real chore to try and keep score and forces people to make tough and possibly unpopular decisions. How about trying to help out and get them in earlier instead of making it hard for everyone.

dragon, I've got an even better solution... GET RID OF THE STUPID DEADLINES IMMEDIATELY! You see, there was an alternate plan 2 weeks ago if the website went down before the 12:30 pm sunday deadline... there's a 'sticky thread' telling you what to do. You were to go to the oddswiz forum and post your contest picks there. The only problem was... that site was down also at the same time. At least one other poster encountered the same problem that I did. So it seems like the logical thing to do in that particular situation is to post your pick in the NFL Game of The Week contest thread, after the ridiculous 12:30 pm deadline but before the game that you post actually starts. Did you know that sportsbooks actually count your play if you submit your selection before the game starts? There's no idiotic deadline.

I discussed this with you before but.. I usually don't know what my best pick is on saturday night, therefore I wait until sunday morning. Its worked well for me in the past so I will continue this practice... but I appreciate your suggestion. Basically I don't like to make any NFL selections until I see John Clayton's ugly mug on sunday morning and he gives me the injury update.

Along the same lines, since we're all gamblers here... would you like to make a friendly $50 wager that someone posts after the 11 AM saturday deadline in Xbigpappa's college football contest? Its happened every week for the last 2 years like clockwork. X incidentally has a very weak reason for that particular deadline.

Sorry....had a few brewskis last night But here are my thoughts about all of this in a more civil manner. Your opinions may vary.
1) Whether or not the deadline in this contest is reasonable or not is subjective I guess. It was posted in the rules before the contest began though. And whether or not it was different than the other contests in years past is immaterial. Everyone should have read the rules. Also, input was asked for way prior to the contest starting and no one mentioned anything about the rules then.
2) As for the website problems. It was clearly stated after the first couple incidents that exceptions would no longer be made so you better take the problems into consideration and get your picks in early. To me that means any problem in posting the morning of the games regardless if it is the main site, backup site, whatever. The main problem with making an exception is that, although most are honest, it opens the door for everyone who forgot or didn't even try to get their picks in in a timely manner to sneak them in late, which is not fair to everyone else.
3) I can think of a great reason why accepting picks up until game times is unreasonable. It's hard enough to keep score as it is, especially in college, without the scorer having to look back and find the starting time of each game to verify if the pick was in on time. When I keep score and enter the results into my spreadsheet, I often times have to look back to see what the spread was because people don't always list it with their pick, and I also have to have another site open to verify what the final score was on many games. You can't remember all of that in your head. As you know, keeping score is a time consuming effort as it is, and allowing picks up until game time just makes it that much harder.
If I remember correctly, part of the benefit of this contest used to be so people could track the best cappers and potentially take advantage of their winning picks. That's another reason to post earlier. But, of course, near the end of the contest that changes a bit depending on the standings.
Regardless, this a free contest with nice payouts and it is supposed to be fun. It sure would be nice to have it one year without any controversies or arguing.

Ok folks -

First let me explain why there is a deadline.

It's no easy task to grade these contests. As a matter of fact, without the help of guys like taxman, we would not be able to have the contests. It's simply too time consuming. I'm grateful that we have guys step up to the plate to grade these contests every year.

The deadline was put in place, to HELP the person grading the contest.

Without the deadline, the person grading has to go in and and double check e very post made after 1pm est to make sure it's not a play on a game that already started.

Personally, I share Dragons thoughts on this.......just make your picks with plenty of time to spare and don't wait until the last minute. Some of you may like to see what other handicappers are doing before making your plays, etc.etc, but hey if you can't, you can't.

But am perfectly willing to do away with the deadline providing it is ok with the scorekeeper. So, Taxman, if you don't mind not having a deadline, we'll do away with it. If it's too much of a hassle without a deadline, don't worry about it at all.

I have heard from Khandor and Monroe concerning disputed records.

Khandor emailed me the playhs, and Monroe posted games starting later.

I'm willing to have their records adjusted, if there are no complaints from other participants.

On the other hand, if there are a bunch of other players in the same boat, having either emailed or posted later starting games, to the poin that we'd have to completely overhaul the records, then it's a no go.

So if you have objections to Monroe's and Khandors disputes, post em here..........!!

As a contestant, I don't have a problem with adjusting their records. The only issue I see is if people start coming forward from all of the other weeks wanting picks reviewed.
The 'no deadline' rule would only be for NFL I would assume.
Regardless, I'd like to see a firm rule that says no more exceptions for late picks period, regardless of the reason. No more emails, alternate sites, etc. If we do the 'no deadline', then anybody that was unable to get a pick in on Sunday can use the Monday game or nothing, IMO.
