  • Illinois -1.5 vs Iowa

Illinois is a 1.5 chalk vs the Iowa Hawkeyes
    this Saturday at Champaign

    A 230 CST Kickoff

Illinois is a Wounded Bear and Coach Zook
is calling each and every one on this team
    to Man up and play.

The practices this week are closed to the
    media, security is very tight.

Illinois has gone 381 minutes without an
Interception on Defense thats 6 games. That is
amazing considering they have two solid corners.

The problem is no real safety play and this
bend dont break defense just isnt putting
enough pressure on the opposing QB's

This should be a DOG FIGHT as there is
alot of bad blood between these 2 schools

    More to Follow

TALK TO ME WOODIE and all

Tell me about this team woodee12 they call Iowa.....

I am looking at them at 5-3.

They beat Indy (at Indy) and also
won vs Wisconsin (home), both teams
    that defeated Illinois.

They played Mich State and NW very tuff
    but lost.

Iowa has a very strong run game, and
when I look at the Squakees I see WISCONSIN
they both play very similar style of football.

Which means Iowa is gonna be bringing the'
heat to Mr Juice Williams QB of Illinois.

The Hawkeyes have won the last 5 games
vs Illinois, including a 10-6 win at Iowa City last year.
Illinois last win vs Iowa was in 2000.

Tell me more about this team, what makes
them tick, strengths, weakness, etc .....

I know you live there Woodee so tell me
your knowledge (secrets) on this team.

For one, this is a bitter rilvary not too many people outside the area know about.

Iowa and illinois battle for recruits and is a big game in terms of that.

Iowa will run the ball firts and pass when they can.

Iowa's D was intense against Wiscy with LB Angerer having a huge day with 2 INTS and 20+ tackles. He is a mean, underrated dude. Kind of like Iowa's LB's of old that are playing on Sundays now.

      Iowa struggles on the road.

This game is a pick'em in my head and need to try to find some more edges for either team.

Right now my lean is on Iowa. And not b/c I live here (I am a Iowa State guy). I think they will control the clock and contain Juice just enough to win.

But thats not the final call as I have to look into it more this week.

Iowa was pretty awesome against Wisconsin. That RB Shonn Greene is a stud, for sure. He's already got over 1150 yds and 10 TD's. They've got a veteran OL that returned all 5 starters from last year. The 'D' is only giving up around 10.5 pts per game. And QB Ricky Stanzi has completed almost 64% of his attempts for 8 TD's to just 4 INT's. They have a very balanced offense with totals of 1567 yds rushing and 18 TD's on the ground and 1520 yds passing and 10 TD's through the air.
Iowa is 22-11 ATS as a road dog since 2000, and 13-6 in their last 19. But just 13-9 ATS their last 22 as road dogs in conference. However, in their last 42 roles as a road dog they have only been dogs of 2 pts or under twice. Once was in 2001 at Wisconsin where they lost 34-28, and one was last year when they won at Northwestern 28-17. Against Illinois since 1996, they are 8-2 SU (including 4-1 SU at Illinois), and 5-4 ATS. And they are 5-0 SU vs Illinois since 2003.
Iowa has played very competitively on the road this year with a blow out win at Indiana and 1 and 3 pt losses at Pitt and Michigan St. Illinois has alternated wins and losses since conference play started, with last week being a loss at Wisconsin, so if the trend continues they win this week. However, this will be Illinois 6th conference game in 6 weeks and Iowa is coming off of a bye. Iowa is 2-2 and has given up just 63 pts in 4 conference games while scoring 113. Illinois is 2-3 in conference play scoring 161 and giving up 125.
Being only 250 or so miles apart, I'm assuming Iowa has some fan support present? Is that correct Carpet?
I think this is going to be an extremely close game. Iowa has the edge on both rushing and passing defense, as they are allowing about 50 yds rushing per game less than Illinois. Iowa's defense has 14 INT's to just 3 for Illinois. Illinois is giving up 15 more pts per game than Iowa. And Iowa has a huge advantage at running back. Illinois has an advantage at QB, but just because of the running ability of Williams.

Afte looking it over, i think Iowa is the plat. +2.5 is the current line.

Hawks are off a week of rest which they needed, they play a lot better D, and Grenn will run all over the Illinois weak Defense.

I saw Zook on the local news and he seemed like he is working them hard but they are not the Rose bowl team from last year.

Iowa will make a strong push to finish this year as they pooped a bowl game down their leg last year at the end.

Green has gotten some heisman hype of late too, and I think he runs for 150+ at least and then opens up Stanzi andthe passing game.

Hope it hits 3 soon, as it looks like it has at some books.

What do you think Carpet? From the Illini sideline?

            FROM THE ILLINOIS SIDE LINE

Illinois Defense has actually been playing pretty
            well the last three weeks.

IF Illinois brings the Heat on Iowa's QB and
force the issue this will disrupt the run game
by a step or to and force the pass from Iowa's QB.

Green of Iowa will not run for 150 yards this
game vs Illinois, I can tell you that.....

The Hawkees Defense is solid, while they really
dont bring the heat on pass defense, they are solid
            in the flats.

This is the best Offense the Squakees have
faced by far this year, and they know full well
Juice Williams QB of Illinois is gonna cause some
            problems for them.

Carpet thinks that 2 good teams are going to
play a BATTLE, and Iowa has caught a bad time
            to play Illinois

This is a Wake Up Call for the Illini and
all signs say they find it at home this weekend.

Illinois knows this, if they lose to Iowa
they must win out to make a bowl game and
Ohio State is still on our date list.

The spread is 2.5 and I just dont see Iowa
            beating Illinois.

Carpet likes the fact Iowa is coming off a
by week, its hard to adjust to that vs a team
that is highly pissed off as Illinois.

If this game was to be played in Iowa and
its not my thought process would be different

            Carpet says

Take Illinois give up the paltry 3 points
cause it's do or die for them, and the
            coach will have them ready.

            Good Luck all

My lean is with Iowa but I think its too close to call so I will probably pass. will be a good game that goes down to the wire.

I think the better play is on the other Iowa team, iowa State grabbing 31 at Okie state.

                all about

I dont pass on this game

Its Illinois all day long as the tooth is in the
                nail for them this game

Just a note: Zook always won these kind of "must win" games at Florida.

                    Illinois covers the 2.5

The Defense of Illinois sacked Iowa QB 6 times
                    in the game

Green of Iowa had 103 yards on 21 carries
                    all very tough

Illinois Defense carried them in this do or die
game, the D is playing very well for Illinois

Coach Zook of Illinois knew this was
gonna be a tough game vs a Iowa team
that plays very very physical game.

A must win for Illinois and they did it

                    Good Luck to all
