Illinois opens a -3.5 chalk vs
Kent State. Neutral Site, South Padre Island, TX.
A LOOK AT THE GOLDEN FLASHES
Kent State has won 20 games or more 10 straight years.
The Flashes are the preseason pick to win the MAC
conf this year.
In the Mid Majors they are ranked 7th,
Gonzaga is ranked number one. They are tough
at home currently sporting a 18 game win streak
good for 9th in the nation.
Last year the Golden Flashers won 28 games and
was a ninth seed in the NCAA Tourney where they
lost to UNLV 71-58. Gone from last years squad
is 6-7 fwd Mike Scott 13ppg and Herman Q a
6-8 220lbs bruiser 10ppg and 7 boards per game.
Returning this year is a Stud named AL Fisher
a 6-1 point guard scoring machine. He was the
MAC conference player of the year in 2007.
Fisher torched St Louis Billikens last game
scoring 35 points in 39 minutes of play.
This is a team that plays small, 3 guard
Very weak down Low, and the depth for the
bigs on the bench is no help at all.
The Flashes are very aggressive on Defense
and very good at creating turn overs. They also
as a team are excellent in taking care of the ball.
From beyond the arc Fisher is nailing 39%
the rest of the team is at a dismal 23%
(Problem area for the Flashers)
If the Bigs of Kent State get into foul trouble
they will have no bench to turn to.
(Problem area for KSU)
A LOOK AT ILLINOIS
Illinois is 4-0 this season, most impressive
win year to date has been vs Vanderbilt on
enemy floor.
The current win streak of 4 games matches the
longest streak UI had during the entire 2007 season.
Illinois plays a clamp down defense that
will play you 40 minutes hard.
The Illini have a big advantage over KSU upfront,
Pound it INSIDE to the trees over and over again
The bench is deep and very athletic.
This team on offense moves the ball very well,
good sharp passes, alot more dribble down
penetration on the guards to create shots.
A Guard Play Trent Meechum is 12 of 19
from 3 point land a blistering 63%, let this kid
alone and it is lights out good from afar.
KSU will play a 1-3-1 Zone on Illinois
and Illinois will shred it. Forcing the Flashers
back to man to man.
Illinois Defense will play out front of KSU
Fisher, assigning Chester Fraizer to mud hole him
for 40 minutes.
Illinois is a Solid Free Throw Shooting team
this year, hitting 21 in a row at one point this year.
This is a Major improvement over last years class
of Brick Laying 101.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Carpet thinks that this is the most talented
team Kent State has seen all year, this Illinois Team.
The depth of the bench, Over all Talent
and conditioning all points in Illinois favor.
I really like what I have seen in Illinois
early games this year, a Huge improvement over
last year.
Take Illinois -3.5 (My numbers say 8)
A TACK ON THE FLOOR
Rob Senderhoff a former assistant to
Coach Samspn of Indiana who faces a 3 year
Show Cause Penalty is now the assistant at
Kent State.
Carpet wonders if Coach Weber shakes his hand?
