  • College BB - Bruin Youngins’ vs Wave Youngins’

Tonight, taking the Waves plus 14.5 pts over the Bruins. Both teams are heavy with underclassman (fresh and sophs) in the starting and back-up lineups.

Waves returners - Four of the five starters from last year's team return (Keion Bell, Taylor Darby, Corbin Moore and Mychel Thompson). Pepperdine's returning players account for 82.5% percent of last year's scoring (1629/1974), 88.3% of the rebounds (919/1041), 65.4% of the assists (223/341), 95.0% of the blocked shots (96/101) and 77.2% of the steals (166/215).

Bruins returners – only one starter from last year is returning which is Nikola Dragovic's who is suspended for at least another game following his arrest and subsequent charge of felony assault. UCLA Coach Ben Howland said Sunday that Dragovic won't play Monday against Pepperdine, although he will be allowed to sit on the bench in street clothes.

Bruins have struggled mightily early in the season with the loss of Collison and Holliday (1st round NBA selections last spring) and graduation of seniors Aboya and Shipp. They have no viable point guard following in the steps of Collison, Wesbrooke, and Farmar who were all 1st round NBA picks previously recruited by Ben Howland.

By the way, according to the High School recruiting gurus two years ago, UCLA had the Number 1 ranked recruiting class. From this class, minus Jrue Holliday, (one and done), the Bruins will be lucky to make the March tourney this year.
