  • 2011 Pro Football Game of the Week (any comments or suggestions for this contest)

I'm back and so is the NFL.

This contest is a very popular contest. There are some great handicappers in this contest, and each week, you're getting their very best play. As such, the rules have been modified to provide quality free picks to everyone at bettorsworld.com.

The Pro Football Game of the Week contest is simple. Pick ONE PRO FOOTBALL game per week, against the spread or total. The winner is the contestant with the most wins at the end of the season.

This contest is held in our main Bookies Hell posting forum. Picks are posted in the appropriate thread each week, and standings are generally posted by Thursday morning.

Official Rules (please read closely as the rules have been modified from last year):

    1. The contest will run from Week 1 (September 8, 2011,) through the Championship game in Indianapolis (February 5, 2011) of the Pro Football schedule.

    2. Your pick may include a Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday game. However, you are only allowed one pick per Pro Football week.

    3. Players in this contest will post one pick per week using the line listed Thursday morning at a major online sportsbook (lines will be posted on Wednesday for weeks with Thursday games). If more than one pick is posted by a contestant, the first pick will be used. Editing picks will not be allowed. Once your pick is posted it is official.

    4. If a game is posted as "OFF" when lines are posted on Thursday morning, it will remain "OFF" even if the side and total are subsequently posted later in the week. Posting a game that is "OFF" will be counted as a loss.

Taxman, thanks for doing this again this year. I think you always do an excellent job handling this contest. If I have one suggestion and it is only my opinion, I thought during I know the superbowl, and maybe the conference championships we didn't get to see the front runners picks before kickoff that were emailed to you. I could be wrong and if so my apologies.. Hopefully we can get those this year.. Other than that, I think you do a fantastic job. Thanks again for handling it. LIKE I GOT A CHANCE TO WIN..LOL

Looks good. We've got it down.

Picking 3 instead of 1 would be fun and give us more of a sampling of what the top cappers like, but picking one GOW is the tradition. Maybe we can start up a side contest with paid entries?

      4. If a game is posted as "OFF" when lines are posted on Thursday morning, it will remain "OFF" even if the side and total are subsequently posted later in the week. Posting a game that is "OFF" will be counted as a loss.

Does this happen that often? Why not add it in later when it becomes available? Too confusing or hard to update?

        Wide,

I like that idea. Sort of like the baseball contest this season when line and totals were posted later in the day.

I have no problem changing the "off" to posted at a later time. Most of the "off"s are up by Friday night/Saturday morning. Typically, the 'offs' happen more during the end of the season, and whenever Favre comes out of retirement! LOL

Maybe think about adding a "Game of the Year". This could be an additional pick worth 2 wins??? Just a thought?

Boys, that GOY would be great!

Though, most handicapping services have their GOY on a weekly basis!!!!

I meant each player gets to make one pick per year worth 2 wins......call it a "Double Play Pick".......just a thought.

Boys, sorry was trying to be funny....

I think it would add to excitement. BTW, I want to play in your Hilton contest, I tried to post, but I would not take. I can also record keep if you'd like. Though, it would be better if it was a $50 entry w/ $300 BW added to the prize fund.

Think we might end up doing a Mock Hilton Contest, not enough interest from the guys to fork up the $50.......it will still be fun.........might take you up on keeping score, and thanks for the offer.

Thanks for doing this again this year! So much fun (and nerve racking).
I'm game no matter what. The GOY idea is neat but maybe you get 1 or 3 chances all year to pick a GOY and it has to be a closely matched game. Say +/-1 or +/2
That would be a nightmare to track. Maybe at random the person posting the lines Bolds one game that is extremely close and that is worth double (a double or nothing pick) but this doesn't happen every week.
You could make it even nuttier by being worth +2 or even -1.

I don't know just rambling out thoughts/ideas. I do like the way it's currently setup.
