The line is currently NY Giants -7 (-115) O/U 44.
I've seen the line at low as -4.5 and now it's 7 at -115 odds. Steven Jackson is questionable for the Rams, Amendola out. Hakeem Nicks is questionable. Both teams are banged up on defense.
The Giants certainly have other weapons besides Nicks but it would be quite a blow to the offense if he were ruled out. Nicks didn't practice on Thursday and was limited in practices Friday and Saturday. On Monday, Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said the team will put Jackson through a workout just prior to the Monday Night Football contest in order to determine if he can play in the game.
The Rams have Cadillac Williams, who filled in nicely for Jackson last week against a better defense gaining 91 yds on 19 carries (4.8 ypc avg) and 5 catches on 9 targets for 49 yds. Greg Salas may fill in for Amendola as the slot guy, but I've also seen it speculated that Sims-Walker might fill that role. I really think the Rams can get by without Jackson and Amendola better than the Giants can without Nicks. The Giant secondary is suspect due to injury. Rex Grossman lit them up for over 300 yds last week completing 21 of 34 for 2 TD's and no INT's.
I don't quite understand the line movement. I know Bradford hurt a finger on his throwing hand but I haven't heard that it would affect him much. He did practice fully the last couple days. New York hasn't looked very good through the preseason and first game....Eli Manning especially. I think the Rams can hang within a TD. This is a much easier match-up than Philadelphia last week where Vick burned them for almost 100 yds on the ground. They definitely won't have to worry about that aspect with Manning at QB.
Hopefully even if Hakeem Nicks plays he will be limited in what he can do, and I have a feeling Steven Jackson will play as he is a gamer and has played hurt quite a bit in his career.
So with the Giants hurting in the secondary and Eli not real sharp recently....and with everyone in the world all over the Giants....I'm going with the....
St Louis Rams +7 (-105) and maybe a 7 pt teaser St Louis +14/OV 37 at -130 odds.
On a side note, Ram head coach Steve Spagnuolo was the Giants' defensive coordinator 2007-2008 .
Some trends,
NY Giants are 4-10 ATS as a home favorite since 2009
NY Giants are 22-17 ATS their last 39 games vs. NFC West (not surprising considering the quality of the NFC West lately)
St Louis is 0-5 ATS the last 5 games against the Giants (haven't played at New York since 2005)
St Louis is 7-18 ATS the last 25 games as a road underdog of between 3.5 -7 points
